ats 4.92 in a gsr tranny
Had a GSR tranny that I put an ITR LSD into.
Pondered adding am ATS 4.9 FD about a year after driving the GSR tranny with LSD.
Seemed like the gearing would be better but would end up at about the JDM ITR 4.785 tranny gearing and possibly not even that good (possibly not as short).
Realized I could sell my GSR tranny that had an ITR LSD in it for about the same as I could buy an ITR tranny, I sold the GSR tranny with ITR LSD and bought a 97 spec ITR tranny.
Bought an ATS 4.9 FD and installed it into the ITR tranny.
Thing fuggin rips thru the gears, its insanity. I love it every shift, every drive, every day, every week.

Top speed is listed on the ATS site, go check it out @ http://www.a-t-s-usa.com top speed is ~130mph.
I have the ATS on my ITR tranny as well, NO regrets, its amazing how fast the rpm climbs.

Ok, let me get this straight.
So you are saying the U.S. R tranny has a shorter 4th and 5th, than the 4th and 5th in the JDM R tranny? Is this still true after you factor in the 4.7 FD in the 98+ spec JDM R trannys? Or would the 4.7 FD "even" the taller 4th and 5th specs out?

he is right about the us gears being tighter than the 98+ jdm ones. the higher final drive makes you wind through the gears quicker, but the actual gear is what determines how far the rpm's will drop from gear to gear.
an american type r tranny with the jdm FD will have tighter 4th and 5th gears compared to a jdm tranny with the 478.
and an american type r with the ats 4.9 will be plain sick

yes. when you factor the 4.7FD, 4th and 5th gears are about equal in both specs.

anyone know how exactly this compares to a jdm itr 98 spec tranny?
as far as gearing?
gsr tranny w/ ATS final drive gearing
vs.
jdm itr 98 spec tranny gearing
(a gear by gear comparison would be nice)

first gear should be fairly equal with a slight advantage to the GSR. second will give the JDM a slight advantage and same with third.
then fourth and fith will go back to the GSR because the jdm tranny has longer 4th and 5th gears than the US ITR. they are the same gears as our GSR i believe.
so the gsr will pull in 4th an 5th a little better.
i think id rather still have the JDM due to the nice close spacing compared to the gsr.
