Painting the side molding? *pic*
Hi all, I have a 2000 Civic DX, and as you can see the door handles, rear view mirrors, side moldings, and bottom peice are all unpainted.
Is there any way I can get those painted to match the car's color? I asked a guy at an auto shop but he said they were glossy or something and the paint would not stick on very long.
I want to go ask a car paint shop tomorrow, but I thought maybe you guys would know also.

LMAO.... pretty sure bunchies is his little green friend.... If your really picky about the way your car looks, have it profesionally done. Personally I would just do it myself. Primer, Duplicolor, and clear...all in spray cans

The guys got no clue what he's talking about. You can DIY, jut go to Lowe's or something, and get a paint hue tester/checker to tell you the exact hue if you don't want to buy OEM paint.

Some autobody shops don't like painting moldings/skirts because there is a higher risk of it chipping, and 80% of the time, they won't warranty it. When the painting actually takes place, a "flex-additive" is used so that the paint will have some flexibility, this is necessary because the rubber/plastic moldings expand and contract, which can cause the paint to chip off. On average, about $3-400 to have it paint matched and covered under a paint warranty.
rodrez had the best answer of all the posts. i just had this done to my 99 dx hatch(red also). it ended up costing me $400 to have it all paint matched. i would strongly suggest against DIY b/c i had done this to my previous hatch and within a month the paint had peeled and chipped. the key is in the flex additive!
