Head Gasket?
Anyone have any ideas on how to get a headgasket off? Not the entire thing, just the burnt on residue of one. I've tried a wire wheel, razor blade, and pretty much every chemical in my garage, short of paint thinner. I'm just curious if anyone has any other ideas.
I would try using a razor blade or go to the auto part store and by gasket remover.

And be carefull, I can't believe you took a wire wheel brush and tried getting it off like that, did you use a drill with it ? Because if you made little scratches you might have some problems with it sealing correctly now.

yes, he's right on the spot.
cover the piston with some rag and start spraying it with the gasket remover, it will take out some but the rest you need to shave it with ravor.
do not shave or ever scratch the metal part, if the you make a scratch deep enough, i can garentee a leak.
some ghetto shop use rotary tool, which is a big no no for head gasket removal.
another thing i want to point out is do not try to take out the carbon build-up(if there's any) on the pistons, it will cause more problems than good

i took off all the build up off of the top of my pistons and intake valves when i changed my headgasket
... what problems can it create????... and how should i go about cleaning it off next time?
