Default lsvtec r/s ratio worse than ls?

my friend was telling me that when i go lsvtec, my r/s ratio would be worse than if it were a straight ls. This was bugging me all day because i cant understand why the r/s ratio would change if the bottom end remains stock ( same crank and rods). he was saying how the piston doesnt go up straight and it rubs on the side of the cylinder wall. wtf? help me out guys
