How can you hook subs up to a stock deck?
My friend recently sold his old car along with his deck to get a new 03 civic. He had subs and amp so he took those out. But since he is broke and the stock deck isn't totally bad, it'll take him a realllll long time before he can get a new deck, especially since it's not a priority. However, he wants to hook up the subs and the amp to the stock deck. I know how to do it with a aftermarket deck, but how do you hook up the amp and subs to a stock one? Thanx
On a separate note... anyone know a "how to..." for taking out the dash/deck on a 03 civic?

YOu would need a amp that receive what is called "line level input" pretty much you just hook up the amp through the speaker wires and not through RCA cables. If he doesn't have an amp that does that you might check out ebay, for somthing probably about $10-20 that would convert the line level signal to and RCA out put, for example a 1 channel mono equalizer with speaker/line level inputs and RCA outs.
I don't know if I explained it well do you kinda get what I am saying?

you dont need a special type of amp, there is an adapter that hooks into the head unit that changes the wires to what an aftermarfet cd player uses and basically gives you RCA preouts, best buy circuit city etc etc etc has them, it works real well did in a 2002 celica recently, but youre better off with a new cd player bc they put out alot more power and they sound hella better, unless you live in a crime high area where they get stolen alot. your choice i believe the cost was $40 with install, i didnt know how to do it so we let them install it and now i know
always watch other do it so you can learn and not have them do it anymore!

You can get an adustable line-level converter at Best Buy for $22.99. It has 6 wires attached to it. You splice the gray wires to the left speaker leads, and the white wires to the right speaker leads, and tape off the brown wires, since they're not used. Then just plug your RCA wires into the converter, and into your amp. You'll need a small phillps head screwdrive to adjust the input sensitivity on the converter, so that there's no distortion. I installed one last weekend in a customer's 99 Saab and he was VERY happy.
Thanx guys for all your help but wait... if you splice the rear speaker wires to the amp/subs, how would the rear speakers still work then? Or do i "split" them i guess... If i do... isn't the signal for the rear speakers a full range speaker signal instead of a sub signal? thanx again
The rear speakers will still work. As you said, you're just "splitting" the signal. Also, yes, the signal will be full range, so you'd need a crossover to filter out the highs.. If your amp doesn't have an internal crossover, you'll need to find one.
Yes you are just taping into the rear speakers. 03 civic (excluding Si) hmmm remove trim around shifter, pry out side clips on remaing trim that is connected to pocket/cig lighter. pull towards you and pocket should pull out, disconnect lighter. unscrew 2 phillips/8mm from underneath. Pull entire radio/temp but pullin the vents on top. Unplug all connectors. DONE.. BUT if you are keeping the stock deck NO POIN on taking the stock deck out......
