Tinting a '99 sedan, a do it yourself job?
I want to finally get window tint in the back window and back passenger windows in my '99 Accord LX sedan. I live in Illinois, and there are no restrictions on the amount of tint on the back windows though I only want light tint (basically the amount on modern vans & SUVs) (in Illinois no tint is allowed on the drivers / passenger's window).
I called a couple of local auto customizers, they charge ~ $150 for the three windows with, if I remember right, a 5 year warranty. Is that price reasonable? Is this something I can reasonably do myself, or is it tricky to get it right?
I found this article which has some information, but still am not sure:

Thanks!

Won't the DIY tint result in a purplish color? I got mine professionally done for $105, and I got a cleaning solution for free. Both quarter-panel windows, and back window at 15%.
I would definitely take it to a shop for tint. It's pretty tricky to get on right unless you really know what you're doing and have the right tools. That was one of the first things I did when I moved down here from Illinois (Decatur to be exact) last November, cuz you can tint all the windows down here instead of just the rear and back 2 (stupid IL tint laws...damn). The legal here is 20% rear and back 2, and 30% front 2. I wanted the front and back sides even though, so I just got 30% on those, and 20% on the rear window. It looks pretty good.... not super dark and you can still see through it real good even at night (which is good for me since I have major vision problems), but still does a good job of keeping it a lil cooler and blocking the glare. If I remember correctly I paid like $137 for everything, with a lifetime warranty, so that's pretty good I think. Probaly not as many tint shops up there as there is down here though, so it may be a little more.
Here's a few pics of mine @ 30%

Dude,
I have a 1991 Accord Wagon and got and estimate for tinting the whole car (ALL Windows) except the driver side and passenger side fronts for 130.00, includes a lifetime warranty.
The place is Majesty Window Shop on Ashland Ave in Chicago.
It is just an estimate, haven't got the car done yet..but that is where I am headed when I get the time for it...

go to the pro..
here some note for you..
the rear window will bubble up, because of the antenna there, that's why so many 6th gen accord with tint got a visor in the back
ask for one piece tinting, some shop might ghetto out on your car with a crappy two piece on your rear window
price is about 120+- for all five windows, sedan add ten buck for the additional glass

Thanks for the advice. I'll let a customizing shop do it, and will make sure they use 1 piece on the back window. 15% to 20% will be my goal for the back three windows of my sedan (again, in Illinois the front two windows cannot be tinted at all (per law), else you are giving a policeman a free ticket to pull you over at any time to check you out, using the tint as an excuse).
Plus I'll look for a shop that's been in business at least a few years, thus they will be more likely to be around if I need to take advantage of the warranty. A lifetime warranty is useless if the shop is out of business.
