Might buy a Lude what are your thoughts???
I found a 1998 Prelude with the DOHC Vtec, but the only problem is that it has 150,000 miles on it. The body is still in pretty good shape. I didn't test drive it yet I might tommrow. They didn't give me a price what would be a fair price? What are known problems that I should look for when i test drive it?
You say it is a '98 with 150k miles-that is more than 30k per year. You can easily research the car, including a CARFAX before making an offer. The higher the mileage the less it is worth. BTW: the usual valuation is based on 15-20k/yr from what the dealer tells me. If it is a 5 speed-make sure that the clutch and brakes are near new. Ask to see the service records or at least find out where maintenance was done.

High mileage doesn't always mean it is bad. It all depends on how well it is taken care of.
In fact...I prefer cars that have been driven mainly on the highway. When I drive my cars...I ALWAYS take the way that has the most highway...even if it is longer.
Mileage is not the thing to look at...it is the KIND of miles on the car. City miles are bad.
Good luck

thanks for the info i am going to check out the car tommrow and see how it is its prob mostly highway miles its in PA
oh is it in PA? what part? For a average price pay max 9g's. 9g's is still pretty high, considering the mileage. But if its a 5spd. (i've seen 5th gen's with 90k for 9g's)Just try and get it really cheap, and get a new motor, or rebuild if you're scared of the "old" motor.
-the problem i heard was the 2nd gear grinding. for the ss (if its auto) the tranny is faulty.
-altho highway mileage cars are good. considering it does less stop and go traffic. The main thing with highway driven cars i have.. are the lil dents, and scratches that come from the highway rocks. I bought a 5th gen with ALL highway miles, but the hood has like 10 lil scratches.. which are really annoying.

Yep my car had 27k when I bought mine - mostly highway, and the front was butchered by chips.
The only 'common' problem I've heard on 5spd preludes is the infamous 5th gear grind. I've heard of this happening as early as 30K, or never! good luck, and run a carfax

i offered 5k cash cause there is a dent in the hood and on both sides the paint on the bottom is fadded off because of no mud flaps. and there are scrathes here and there from normal use. Also the motor smokes a lil not bad but it was prob the piston rings, the interior was perfect and everything else worked though. I offered 5k they wanted $8500 i just kinda laughed at them and walked away.
