Default Any way to prevent your teg from being flat bedded?

Since Im on campus Im more worried about getting my car flat bedded than anything.

Ive got the top of the line clifford and the ignition is cut off in so many place that I dont even remember them all.
If they get in, the only thing they can really steal is my old pioneer headunit which without the face which I always pocket.

I do the basics, park it near a curb, front in, wheels turned toward curb, in gear, with e-brake on with ignition lock in addition to the security crap on it.

Is there anything that can make it much harder for them to get away with it?

Sounds like you have all the bases covered that you possibly can. If someone REALLY wants it, they'll get it. Sad but true. Maybe a boot would do something for you, if you want to look into that.

pull in ur driveway and have someone park behind you. or you can paralell park.

those are things I always try to do when I'm in shadey areas

that ontop of auto-lock, fuel pump kill, and the remove clip from engine bay trick

The worst thing about car theft is that if your not in a garage thats locked without windows then your always going to be a target. Theives have gone to some pretty large extents to get to a car. Like stated above, if they really want it....there going to get it.

One thing to make sure. If you see a car that your not used to seeing and he's falling you into the school parking lot. I wouldn't park your car, act lost and turn around. Never let anyone follow you back to your destination. They may not steal it that night, they may be just planning an attack on your teg on a later date. Be careful and always look out for suspicious things. You have done well thus far with the things you listed. The next thing you can do is just pray. Park in a well lite area and if your in with the guards then tell them to keep an eye on it.

Where I park is isolated, under a light, and the security guard keeps an eye on it all night. I also, got an alarm, park in gear, keep the e-brake up, make sure nobody follows me, and I am never cocky in my car...thats the easiest way to make enemies. Respect your car and know its capabilities, people will respect you and look out for it perhaps....

Something I would really love to get is a good quality car cover ($200-$300 for a custom-fit high qualtiy fabric cover). That keeps the car out of sight for the most part and might keep people from wanting what you've got.

hummm...i would just park your car with the keys in the ignition and running. THat way they could just drive off.

but seriously.... get someone to concrete 4 corners. going in the ground about 10 feet with lots of rebar in there then get 4 bigass eyebolts(like 1.5inch thick) and some big *** chain to put around your rear suspention and front. I dont think they will get far..

that would be cool. then pay some homeless guy like 20 bux a day to chain/unchain you everytime you get there.

but in all seriousnedd flatbedding is hard to get around. good luck

Hmm.. using a thick chain and putting it around your control arm or something. that would do the trick. can't be driven or towed off

I don't have an alarm yet but until I get one I was thinking about getting those glass 'things' with mercury in them that complete a circuit when on an angle and hook it up to my horn so if my car gets towed\flatbedded it will make a scene.

(yes I am going to put a switch in to turn it off so it doesnt go nuts when I drive up a hill)

They don't need the tow hook to tow your car.

it's not like they care if they break an axle or something. they will jerry-rig it somehow to get it on the flatbed.

well it still helps to prevent it. they now have to put it on two different points rather than the tow hook. and they also have to get down on the ground and crawl around. this will look fishy at school.

Yeah, it will be a pain in their *** but if they want your car they won't give a sh*t. I hate scumbags.

ok it says ways to prevent not stop them. read the title. i was just giving him an idea. and who said anything about a tow truck or not hurting the car. i was just telling him something to slow them down. if the theives are slower then they are more likely to get caught.

I joined a tow-forum a while back to ask this very question. The unanimous response was that there is nothing to do to prevent towing.

http://pub176.ezboard.com/ftow...topic

The guys gave me a hard time because of my questions, but I think the topic needed to be brought up. They seemed reluctant at first to addrerss the issue.
Then they proposed mandating that all tow rigs have to have the company's name/logo permanently painted on them. That was proactive.

Thanks for that link wotteg and to everyone else for their realistic ideas.

I think that even requiring painted information on the tow truck wont help all that much. For a heist, the truck can get blank magnetic sheets and put it over the information.

I had never seen those "fast hook up" things. That was disgusting, I can immagine a truck backing up and lifting a car in 30 seconds.

I have previously considered an auto boot like piece, but again, this fast hook up towing wont be afftected and it will be too much work for a daily driver to put that on and off every time you leave your car. This type of item only begs for attention from thieves. I dont know the design, but I would immagine it wont work with all rims, and most people on these boards have after market rims.

I had wanted to get a car cover over the summer since I knew I would be leaving my car out in the sun for extended amounts of time. The fact is, if you look at a parking lot and you see 1000 cars, and 1 has a car cover on it, it tends to stand out more than the others. This is still a possibility that I might do just because Im tired of washing my car and leaving it and coming back to a car that looks like its never been cleaned.
