Default Car cranks and cranks, but won't start

I have an intermittent problem that does not occur all of the time. Sometimes when I get in my 90 Accord, it turns over and just cranks and cranks, but won't start. Took it in to the mechanic, and of course it started every time so they couldn't tell for sure what the problem was. Any ideas?

Most of the time when it is cold. It has happened just a couple hours after we've driven the car.

You are in Houston it may be the main relay. This is a coomon problem when the interrior gets hot. Does it have spark when it is cranking or does it not turn over. Can you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds when you first turn on the iginition. The main relay develops cracks in the solder joints. the fix is to open up the relay and reflow the solder joints on the cricuit board or if you are not handy with the soldering pencil just go buy a new one and put it in. Generally its on the drivers side undr the dash. Search on main relay for pics etc.

Definitely main relay. While sitting in the car , start cranking and bang the dash by your left knee. The jolt should be enough to kick in the relay. If not, reach underneath the dash, above the fuse box, and bang directly on the relay.....should start. Or, just get a new one.

Is the main relay hard to replace? Do we get it from Honda or any car parts store?

Easy to replace....one bolt and one connector. It is about $55 from Honda.
