yup, that would be your best bet

Actually your all wrong. 205/40-16 is the closest to the overall diameter of the 195/50-15.
A little math to help you...not that many people know how tire sizes work. The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters and the second is the aspect ratio. Aspect ratio is height of sidewall divided by the tire width * 100.
OK...knowing this lets calculate the overall diameter of the tires...
Multiply the first number by the second one divided by 100. (205*(40/100)) = 82mm = Sidewall height
(82mm * 2)*.0393 = 6.457 in = total sidewall height in inches. the .0393 is the conversion factor.
6.457 + 16 = 22.46 in = overall diameter of the 205/40-16
Do the same thing for the 195/50-15 and you get 22.68 in
For 205/45-16 you get 23.26.
Summary:
Size Overall Diameter (in)
195/50-15 22.68
205/50-16 24.07
205/40-16 22.46
205/45-16 23.26
You want your overall diameter to be as close as possible or youll throw your spedo. off.

i used to rub in the rear with my 205/45/16's when i was too low. i've adjusted the height and solved the problem but i wonder if i bought 40 series tires, if i would prevent rubbage?
what brand of tires are you looking at?

Why are you comparing it to 195/50/15? 195/55/15 is what comes with the Integras and some civics. 205/45/16 is a more accurate plus 1 size for 195/55/15.

I run 205/40/16. The only problem is tire choices aren't the greatest. I like the way that size looks on 16's the best.
I know I'd scrub like hell if I went with a 205/45/16 or higher.

Here's an easier formula...
width(in mm) times the aspect ratio(percentage, hence the decimal
) divided by 12.7(conversion from metric to standard) plus the wheel diameter. Examples below...
205/45-16 tire...
205 x .45 / 12.7 + 16 = 23.26
215/40-16...
215 x .40 / 12.7 +16 = 22.77
and so on.....

You raise a good point...OE tire should be 195/55-15. In which case you are correct 205/45-16 would be the correct tire size.
I was going by his original statment that he had 195/50-15's currently.

Also, the 5G, 6G, and 7G civs all come with different stock tire sizes.
