OT: mercedes benz cars
kinda off topic but i was just wondering...why does mercedes benz not offer a manual transmission on almost nearly their whole lineup of cars? i mean even the crazy 469hp 5.5 liter AMG engines used on the S,E,CL,SL classes
well, my 2 cents would be in that the auto trans are the future and the manual-hydraulic. So, i would think they base their production on this, besides, they also have a clear target, high end people that really don't care.
AMG has never made a manual car as far as I know. If you think about it I would guess that 95% of all mercedes sold in the last 2 years are automatics. (Not counting the C230 hatchback which is a horrible car.)
They-Mercedes-are invested in autos both as a mass produced item and a consumer demand item. These cars can be very fast and to be safer with non pro. drivers a auto is a given. Plus the there is no clutch to replace-adjust, no steping on the clutch thinking it is the brake etc. etc.
They offer manual trans. on trucks and commercial type vehicles. I guess the rest are luxury type cars and such. Driving a Mercedes is like driving with the parking brake on.
mercedes beleaves that their customers have no intrest in a manual or that they beleave that if u drive a mercedes it should not b a manual. saw it on tv
mercedes also makin a 7 speed auto tranny thats goinna b sweet, the new bmw 5 series now come with a 6 speed auto 6 speed manual and 6 speed smg. w00t!
optional hud display too damn cars are gettin crazy

i believe in time, or at least in the european market, the manual will die and it's going to be substituted by the SMG, which IMHO is a VERY SWEET tranny
I know they have manuals for the c-class and clk class benz's. Those AMG 55's are nice but the new 600's are better. Twin turbo 6.0 liter v12
.
Hey wait a minute...benz's have 3 valves/cylinder, no vtec, and need a lot of displacement. I guess Domestics and Mercedes Benz sucks right?

MB do have Variable vale timming, just like almost every other car maker, yes, they do have 3 valves and some great engines, but it does suck that all their high end cars are automatic
