Default Oil Analysis results

At the time of this oil change, I had 51,473 miles.

I use mobil 1 15w-50 with a bosch 3312 (b-series) filter changed every 3000 miles or as close to it as I can.

here's the links to the virgin sample & used sample.

all the wear metals are really low, basically the results of this oil change & my compression test verify to me that my engine is in great shape at 51k+ miles.

I drive a LOT, and I drive hard, so any added protection I can get with a thicker oil & shorter oil change interval is welcome.

here's a link to my maintenance record, all oil changes are done by me:

so anyhow, apparently the 15w-50 is not bad at all for the k20 - from talking to some guys on bobistheoilguy and searching some posts, it seems as though the wear numbers are similar to the lower weight oils, and in most cases, a bit better.

So w/the thicker oil, you're not burning any? Were you burning w/ the thin 5w 20 oil before?

well, the factory fill oil burned like crazy, when I changed the oil the firs time, i was like a quart + down, and that's after adding 1 quart.

The oil consumpstion went down immediately with the 15w-50, and now it doesn't burn at all when i'm easy on the car, but when i'm running it hard, i'll loose a quart over 3000+ miles.

The redline 10w-30 I put in burned like crazy. dunno why

how is burning oil "good"?

burning some oil is inevitable, but if you're burning a lot, you have problems.

I'm a big fan of BITOG also.

Here's a somewhat relevant thread...

Good looking car BTW.

So, you going to go to 6000 next time?

thanks!

I'm gonna go to a 4500 mile interval for the next change. And then, to satisfy my curiosity, i'm gonna try a 5-30 oil to see how it holds up to the abuse I dish. I don't think it has the film strength to keep up with how I drive.

There's a difference between a little (barely noticeable on the dipstick) and burning 1+ qts between changes. Allowing for burning a very small amount allows engineers to get better tolerances inside the motor...

My integra with 187,000 miles on the clock doesnt burn any that i can detect.
