Default Tanabe Hyper Medallion for GSR

Hey guys, i'm seriously looking to pick up an exhaust system for my GSR here pretty soon. I've been looking at the Tanabe Hyper Medallion exhaust, looks really clean, i haven't heard it though. How are the performance #'s compared to the Racing Medallion and say the Apexi N1? Also, right now I'm completely stock except for an intake, so I plan to add a header & cat as well, but not right now. Will I be ok getting the exhaust first and then adding a high flow cat & header later on? Anybody have any sound clips of the Hyper Medallion?

Any of you guys know of a reliable quality place to order this system?

No sound clips but i'll tell you from all my integra experience. I've ran every one of those exhausts. The Racing Medallion will give u an edge in HP but not by very much. The Hyper Medallion is a little louder than the SP but quiet overall. The Apex N1 is a powerful exhaust overall, but can get a little loud. It's a preference thing. If u want peace and quiet, Hyper Med. The Racing MEdallion is DEEEEEP sounding..Sounds nice, little more HP, and not annoying like other buzzy exhausts. The N1 is a little louder, sounds a little more powerful, but can sound like mental HP. Options Auto Salon is a trustworthy place if u want to mailorder it.

I have the Hyper Medallion and I really like it. Its not too loud for cruising and well you go wot it screams. Looks really nice also. When your driving it has a nice sound. I've heard other exhausts and I like the Hyepr Medallion the best.

I have the apex'i n1 and was actually choosing between it and the tanabe. after researching it, i found out that the two are very comparable, it boils down to preference (of sound that is). I prefer the louder, deeper tone of the n1 so i chose it. either way, you'll have a good catback

how hard is it to install a catback? I mean i have access to like jack stands and all the tools, but is this like an all day job that can be done by someone without a lot of experience installing exhausts.

its not hard at all to install a catback.. hehe.. u might wanna sucker one of ur friends to "help u do the install" and hold up the piping while it bolt it up.. u'll also need two jackstands, floorjack, torque wrench.. u can use some wd40 to help wiggle the rubber hangers off ur old piping.. sounds like fun to me..

the worst part of installing a catback is the damn bolts on the cat. there are three bolts in a triangle shape that hold the exhaust pipe to the cat. on mine i had to disconnect the cat and exhasut pipe together from the end of the header to get at the bolts from the cat. they were seized pretty bad, other than that you should be able to install it in a few hrs.

The only things to consider are the sound and appearance because the exhausts mentioned are are all 60mm OD with straight through rear mufflers. Meaning the performance would be the same. YES the Hyper Medalion is straight through, not baffled. The Tanabe's have a bottleneck at the cat connection and they use a louvered core resonator in the mid-section tubing. I don't know if Apexi's has a bottleneck. See pic below.

EDIT: BTW, this was on my Tanabe Racing Medalion.

I have a Tanabe Hyper Medallion for my GS-R and I really like it. The quality is very nice. Still very shiny and looks new.

As for the sound, it has a nice deep tone, but not nearly as loud as the N1 or the Racing Medallion. It can scream if you let it loose as too.

Where in Norcal do you live? You can maybe check my setup out and see if you like the way it looks and sounds.

why would they put that in there? I thought the racing medallion makes pretty good power though, doesn't it?

I have no idea why. As i stated before the exhausts you mentioned are all 60mm, therefore, will have the same performance. If you care about performance you look at specs and ignore brands and all the the hype in the ragazines like Import DEtuner.

FWIW, Apexi resonators are perforated. Louvered resonators are restrictive.
