SV650 riders: What do you pay for insurance?
I just turned 21 and have no tickets, etc on my record(that should still be there at least). Im looking at a 99 sv650(not the s) and ive only had a chance to call progressive which wanted 472/year(liability), which seems pretty high to me. Tomorrow I think I will be calling the local dairyland guy and im trying to remember the name of one i saw advertised in one of my bike mags, it was something rider or rider something rather, i dunno. I used to pay around 13x/year on my 78 gs400 so i dont think it should be too much more than that(2-300 year im thinking).
So what do you guys pay? any recommendations?
btw: the bike has 5699 miles on it and a windscreen and has no blemishes that i could see. they were asking 3199+199 freight, so im thinking 3k out the door may be what im looking at.
one more btw:i just read that you dont need ins. on bikes in florida or wash. state, anyone know if this is the case here in NM? i havent heard of it before but maybe its a well kept secret.

well, forgot that usaa(current ins. was open 24hrs to call) and i got a quote(3 other cars on the policy) for 215/6months full coverage(500 deduct) and 142/6months for liability(with uninsured motorists). so either 24 or 36 dollars. i would just wonder if it would be worth it to get the full over just the liability(i is only 50% more).
and i found the states that dont require cycle ins.:
georgia
hawaii
massachusetts
michigan
montana
oregon
washington
and the site i found this on: http://info.insure.com/auto/mcrequired.html says that it is required in florida.
perhaps ill go get the bike this weekend

Try putting it on with your car insurance. That generally means to the insurance its not your primary vehicle so its recreational only so you wont be on it a lot and you'll usually get much lower prices. Usually AAA is really good. State Farm is pretty good about it too.

A lot of the big insurance comapies do this because its easier for them to go by cc's. Pure laziness.
However, I found numerous companies that go by classification when I insured my sv650s. Since its considered a "standard" I pay much less than I would on a fully faired supersport.

$1100 CDN for a year of coverage. 25yrs old no accident and a Learner's liscence
Should go down when I get the regular liscence. Mid 90's CBRs/GSXRs/YZFs and the like were over $2000 dollars for a used bike. That's why I went with the SV. What's the point of paying the insurance company the price of the bike in 3 years.
Used 600cc Sport Bike = $2500 CDN insurance
NEW SV650s = $1100 CDN insurance
just not worth it for me yet. Maybe in a couple of years...
