Found an R6...What do you guys think?
I was just looking through the recycler and I came accross this R6. Looks like a pretty good deal. What do you guys think?
Here is what the add reads...
"1999 Yamaha R6 Marlboro, 28K miles, red/wht, flush lites, M4 pipe, carbon sliders, HID lites, seat cowl, red tint, cool graphx, never down. Just had complete tune up with valve job. Runs xlnt. Never laids down. Free and clean title. Reason for sell: I want to get a cruiser bike."
Here are some pics....
It looks very nice, only thing I don't like about it are the silver wheels. I like black ones better.
Price: $4,500 Firm.
So what do you guys think?
?
EDIT: One more thing I wanted to ask is that I have never sat on an R6 before so I don't know high they ride, or what the seating position is like. Anyone have any experience on R6's? I'm pretty damn short, around 5'5" so I'm kinda worried about stopping at a light and just laying her down.

Whats the usual life of a bike in terms of miles? He says he just got a valve adjustment with some other minor things done to it and it runs like butter. Is there a yearly average of miles for bikes like there is for cars?
Also, could you guys post up what price you guys think is fair for the bike? I know this im asking a lot of noobish questions, but its my first bike and I don't want to get ripped off or get stuck with a lemon.
Thanks again

you should ask for about 4k. I got my 00' R6 with 18k miles for $3300 and i had to buy new tires for $300. but this was a friend hookup. a motorcycle engine and a car engine should be no difference. -ride safe

You should mention that it was a salvage title

Haha, yeah that would make a big difference. Also, I don't see why a motorcycle and car engine would not be different. How many cars do you see revving to 13k?

If you change the oil reguarly and you're on top of the maintance, it can last as long as a car. Tell him to know off a few hundred so you can get the wheels powder coated black.

I have seen a 1995 honda cbr with 123k original engine on it and it ran like a champ...not rebuilt either.....just keep up on the regular maintaince and keep fresh oil in it and it will last as long as a car
if you live around the southern california area my buddy has a blue/white 2001 R6 with 9,000 miles on it and he's asking only $5500 firm. he'll throw in his matching alpinestars gloves and suomy helmet both pretty brand new for an extra $300. Its in PERFECT LITERALLLY SHOWROOM condition and has a clean title.

it's a bit on the pricey side. I'd be interested in seeing his HID lights as well. Check the chain, tires, and other wear parts to make sure it doesn't need work. Motorcycle engines can last a very long time as long as it's taken care of. The reason why you don't see motorcycle motors going the distance is b/c people either crash em, or sell them, or never ride em

I was going to buy that bike too. It's an OK deal, but I got my 02 R6 for $4500. It had 3500 miles, r1 forks, full exhaust, and a bunch of extra goodies, but it had a salvage title. Not bad IMHO. You get what you pay for, usually.

I wouldn't describe any decent racebike as "running like butter". Then again that doesn't really look like a racebike. Just a poser with way too much time/money. Poser owned bikes are like riceboy owned cars... only worse. I say stay away. From that bike and R6s in general. You said it yourself, noob.

I bought my 49 state R6 for $4800 w/ 18k miles. Full Hindle exhaust, jet kit, some other little stuff. Its been dropped but just scratches on the fairings.
I'm 5'6"-7" and I can almost flat foot both feet. But at a light all you need is one foot down

DON'T GET THE BIKE!!!
Seriously. People have horror stories about 1999 R6's with 15,000 miles or more. There's a defect in the tranny which will pop your bike out of 2nd gear without any warning. Go perform a search on an R6-dedicated forum and you'll see what I'm talking about. Cost to fix is several thousand dollars.

SOunds a bit pricey to me too. Why does he have a 2001or 2002 tail section on? And the problem with high mileage R6 is that the transmission on R6 are not known to be all that great compared to others... Look around some more, you can find better.+ it isn't a real good looking bike to me. I not a big fan of stickers all over a bike, keep it simple if you ask me. And whats up with the whole malboro theme? Did malboro sponsor him in races??? Or did he just not have the imagination to come up with a design?
as for websites..... http://www.r6messagenet.com
or
http://www.sportbikes.wsthis is one is for any sportbikes...
Some noticed something.... he has a michelin guy sticker on the front but from the pics he seems to be rolling on Dunlops....

hey buddy, markymarc, just FYI, if you take a 99 and put 01-02 rear cowling and seat its called dope, and it has better tail lights. yah, so what if the stickers suck. but definently do not clown the rear cowling, if you new anything about an R6, you would know that the back of a 99 is ugly.
