D ischarge
dis·charge (ds-chärj):
a
To relieve of a burden or of contents; unload.
To unload or empty (contents).
b
Release of stored energy in a capacitor by the flow of current between its terminals.
Conversion of chemical energy to electric energy in a storage battery.
A flow of electricity in a dielectric, especially in a rarefied gas.
Elimination of net electric charge from a charged body.
OR
H igh
I intensity
D ispersion
dis·per·sion (d-spûrzhn, -shn) :
The act or process of dispersing.
The state of being dispersed.
b.
Separation of a complex wave into its component parts according to a given characteristic, such as frequency or wavelength.
Separation of visible light into colors by refraction or diffraction
c.
The separation of light into its different colored rays, arising from their different refrangibilities.
anyway, what do you all think?

i've always wondered because my uncle works for BMW after he took S.T.E.P. he always mentioned H.I.D. as high intensity dispersion.

High Intensity Discharge.. It's not seperating wavelengths to make different colored light.. it's creating light from a chemical reaction of gas having electricity run through it..
