Default Carbon Sunroof plug kit for 88-91 CRX --56K Beware

Just wanted to let you guys know we have a new product for your car. This plug kit will shave about 35 lbs. The kit weighs 2 lbs. Here are a few pictures of one installed on a b16 turbo crx.

Before

Holes Drilled using lacating tool included in the kit

Brackets mounted, notice they don't go lower than the flange

Panel bolted to the car top with countersunk machine screws and tiny nylocks, these will come in black or silver

Drive rivet, no rivet gun required, just tap the back and attach the bracket to the car

Taped off and ready to seal the gap

Black silicon applied with finger and ice cube to smooth the silicon. Silicon will not stick to the silicon

Finished with smooth seal

The sunroof plug itself is a prepreg carbon, fabric/uni panel that is glossy on both the inside and outside and UV clear coated. It fits flush with the body line and when you install the headliner you don't even see the brackets. Install time is about 2 hours and it comes with all the instructions and a template for bracket mounting.

If you haven't taken your sunroof out you will be amazed at how heavy it is. Weight is bad but weight up high is very bad. This will improve the performance of your car. The only downside is you can't open your sunroof unless you un-install.

Holy crap. Why didn't you guys come out with that like a month ago?

The reason I say that is b/c I just installed a fiberglass plug where my sunroof used to be. It works perfect, and is probably cheaper, but your kit looks awesome!

I wish I had known that trick about the black silicone before I used what I used to seal mine up. Man, mine came out UGLY! I used 3m Drip-Chek and I didn't know it would turn OLIVE GREEN when it cured... .

Anyway, that is AWESOME and I hope you guys sell a ton of those!

Is the price going to be posted, or is that an IM-only thing, cause I'm just curious what it is.

Wait, now I have a question. Okay - step 1 - attach L-brackets to car on sunroof flange - is this where you use the rivets?

Then when you attach the panel to the brackets, it's held on to the brackets by the nylocks?

If that is how it goes, it almost seems like the pics are out of order? Maybe not, it's still early for me

Thanks for the compliments. The Loctite silicon that comes in the kit is uv and chemical resistant. The brackets are mounted to the car with rivets and then the panel is mounted to the brackets via countersunk machine screws with nylocks on the inside of the car. I should have moved the rivet picture up, sorry.

That looks like a good quality kit. What a great idea for sunroof equipped car owners who don't want the sunroof anymore but still want a pretty clean look.

Looks nice, but what about one for a hatchback?

What about making just a replacement for the glass part of the roof? Is that possible?

Well it comes in four flavors.
1. Water Jet cut panel alone no-clear coat $222
1. Water Jet cut panel alone with clear $262
2. Plug kit with everything included no clear coat $320
3. Plug kit complete - with uv clear coat, brackets, black loctite silicon, drive rivets, instructions, template, bracket locating tool, machine screws, and tiny nylocks $360

You can get away without using a clear coat but then every 6 months or so you need to apply a composite protectant, sort of like sunblock for carbon fiber. This is available for like $7 a bottle but you need to do something to protect it.

I realize this a lot more than the fiberglass plugs available but its also lighter and a complete kit.

Next we will be doing the 92-95 hatch, 94+ integra, and 99-00 SI

Price would be good but hows the strength? Dont want anything that will crack or even get big stress marks from hard cornering.

I have the fiberglass plug, and it doesn't have stress marks, so I really wouldn't worry about it with Carbon Fiber - which is obviously stronger.

Yes, it is more expensive than the fiberglass, it's probably a little teeny bit lighter, it comes much more complete if you get the whole kit (not really much DIY involved), and it LOOKS a hell of a lot better!

From someone with lots of sunroof plug experience - it gets my .

Well the 92-95 hatch will be done in early October. I'm not sure if I'm going to do one for the earlier hatch. I would have to see what the interest is.

I will have pics of that tommorrow. Really all you should see is a nice carbon surface. The fasteners should be hidden. We had to wait 24 hours before removing the masking tape below so the silicon would cure. The guy with the car will be forwarding me some pics. I will post them soon.

I was able to get some pics today. Here they are.

Here are some pics of the silicon job we did, Ice works great

Here is a picture of the interior with silicon, we didn't do a prefect job on this but it all depends how much time you take to tape off the bottom of the gap

Here is an inside shot with the headliner installed

Another inside shot, I thought you would be able to hide the brackets but at an angle they are visible. You could probably cover that with weather stripping if it bothers you

Here is another from directly below

Is this a flat piece of carbon fiber or does it follow the shape of the roof?
Can you take a picture of the roof from the side.
I have seen the fiber glass plug availbale for the CRX and it follows the shape of the roof perfectly to the point you could bondo the edges, paint it and you would have to look at it twice to notice it is a plug.
