Would you take advice from Circuit City on car alarms?
I mean do they know what they're talking about? How good are their installs? When I ask about car alarms, they don't seem like they know much.
Well some years ago that was not the case ( i was with them for 7 years
but i left in Feb 01 ). There are still some Diamonds in the rought there.
Its kinda hard to say though without witnessing it 1st hand.
If it sounds to way out there...you know the rules.

it's just like any place you go, it depends on who works there. Any place you go is going to have someone who's a damn genous while the others might be dumb as a brick. For example, I use to work at Circuit City, as did my friend who's off in Wisconsin now. I swear we were the only 2 smart people in our division. Everyone else was damn dumb. We'd end up with installs from other stores who couldn't figure out a remote start or something else like that.
They have shitty installs and do all the install the same, no custom work done, bring it to a good audio and Security Shop, 2 bad ur not in the bay the shop in my sig does some very good work.
depends again on who does it etc. When I worked there, if the person was nice I'd do a little extra to make the installer better. The biggest factor is they don't pay worth **** and it gives most people who work there little or no insentive to do anything
no matter where you go, it always depends on the people that serve you.
A shop might have the best installer in your area, but if his salesmen is a dough head, you'll never get an install from this guy.
Trust them? why not ? It's not like he's trying to sell you something.... oh wait a minute....

The Circuit City near me does some DANG good alarm installs.
They even ask you where YOU want everything mounted. If you ask them to put in a custom kill switch or anything like that, they will....
I'm very impressed with my local one. But like everyone else said, it all depends on who works there.
Every one will be different.
Don't brand the company itself as lackluster just because of one or two locations.

*Inside info on Circuit City installers*
Untill about 1 year ago the installers would only be installers instead of half installer / half floor salesman. Now they are taking floor sales people and making them installers and taking installers and making them floor sales people.
The general rule is: an alarm is only as good as the install.
There are diamonds in the rough you just have to find them. I trust all my former coworkers to work on my car but I know what they can do.

true and not true.. ive been working for circuit city for over 2 1/2 years been an installer for over 1 year before that i was warehouse and sales.. i transfered to the roadshop w/ some very good knowledge about car audio/security and was trained before i could do everything on my own.. since then i have been installing every day.. it does depend on the shop and go by the saying "an alarm is only as good as the install" to be honest w/ you im this game also.. i do stuff to my car so i know people dont want there **** stolen or broken into easily.. i tend to do a better job on installing and alarm on a customers car when they have aftermarket parts ie radio subs, rims then i would on a customer who is 45 years old just looking to scare away potentional breakins.. i recommend all the optional sensors that can be installed w/ there alarm for example i always push a backup battery and siren, along w/ a hood and trunk pin.. and ai do a good job at hiding all the wires very well also.. i also do side jobs and since i can do more w/ them and charge the customer whatever I want i can do things that i owuld not normally be able to do at work as easily...

I can attest to this statement. There still are some good installers out there, but coz the pay is so low, the good ones either quit or do a half assed install. You can usually tell if they're good installers by looking at their cars. Their cars usually have very clean installs.

From what I've experienced firsthand with Circuit City install, Hell no! is my answer.

I have never personally bought anything from circut city and had them install it because i just do it myself but on a few ocasions i had problems with my sub and drove back by the shop and even told them that i didnt buy the stuff their and they would come out to my car and tested my stuff for free and were very helpful and each time told me what i needed to do to fix it and everytime it worked soo...just got to find the good guy i guess...
I worked at CC a few years ago in video sales. I got to know a few of the guys back in the Roadshop because I preferred that department except for the ******* manager that oversaw it. Now the norm with that company is that everything is a pre-packaged, mass-produced, drive-through process. It's great for Joe Customer who wants a descent product at a good price, but not for those of us who are car nuts.
Here in Grand Rapids, I worked at the Roadshop for a while.
The guys in my area were VERY knowledgeable, did awesome installs. They had the skills, and had fun doing it.
I quit only because of the store manager, but that was it. The roadshop guys were always the coolest in the store

they dont do that bad installs on alarms. my friends lowrider s10 has a full viper alarm installed on it and a remote start. the only problem is he can leave the truck in drive(automatic tranny) and start it ant it drives off. its kinda cool when he lets it drive across the parking lot to him
i personally am taking mine to ultimate electronics to install an alarm i bought. they charge about 130 to install it and may even do a remote start on a manual if they can get a waver to get all fault off of them. i was going to install it, but decided to leave it to the pros since i dont have good directions

OK OK OK Ive installed at Circuit for 4 years here in the west coast. (Now currently at the competetior Good Guys) Just because the pay and the lay offs and making installers half sales and half sales into installers. BS!!
Basically its the installer and his Experience. I did good alarms if the customer was koo and of course if it was a honda. But alarms juss slow theives not STOP them. CC produces good alarm installers because we did so many of them. Other box stores dont compare to the volume of alarms we did at CC.
