newb. question to help a friend. please help him

He has a 97ish civic ex. Slow as hell. give me a list of things ud do for about 1,000 performance wise. Please include brand name, price, and estimated ET. Thanks a million.

first off...wrong forum,
but for a civic that d series engine wont do him too good. just save up for a couple hundred more and get an engine. there are many direct drop-in's for that car.
