Default B18c-R or B18c???

Hey guys I just got my car (95 LS SE) and sadly its automatic..... I'm looking into getting a JDM swap mainly for the manual tranny but also for performance. The GSR is aout 1500 cheaper than the R but after spending money on JDM type R pistons cams ect. (like most people with gsrs do) doesnt it work out to be about the same? Then you get a LSD with the type R too. Just wanted to get some more imput before I make my decision. Also if i did go with the type R should I still go with aftermarket cams, pistons? I want to be running low 14s/high 13s eventually. Plz dont post telling me to go LS/v-tec I dont want the hassle. Thnx for all ur help!

Go JDM R you will love it and if you go aftermarket cams just look at my sig and you will have an idea of what kind of power it makes. i believe my car is now capable of high 12s if i tune it and do some more stuff hopefully i'll hit low 12s

Yeah if its only 1500 differance get the r and it sounds like you would like a semi-mild build for the gsr if you did get it anyways so I would get the r. If you were going to do a wild build like 12 to 13 to 1 comp stage 3 cams and full port and polish I would say just get the gsr but if you want a more mild build go with the r.

i think either motors are good. i guess it mainly depends on your budget, what you want out of the car, and what kind of racing you do. both motors can yeild high hp and great drivability. although the R does comes in a better designed base form.

The most important question is are you planning on building your motor up any more?
If you're planning on putting more money into your motor, go with the GsR. If you want something reliable, potent, and easy to use out of the box, go with the Type R.
I personally would go with the GsR.
$1500 worth of parts (exhaust, AEM / Iceman intake, ITR header, AEBS IM, ITR/CTR cams) would make a more potent package than a type r, and would be about the same cost. Then you could sell your other stuff (stock shiz if you find someone to buy it ) and buy a Hondata and some dyno time and make more power than a type r

ask yourself this, is it worth spending the money on parts you would aready have if yo7u bouth the type r? Cause cams are the first thing that can be almost 1/2 the diff. also the lsd and the head. do savw the money buy the type r, I will be getting mine next week or so. FINALY

If only $1500, $1500 adds up QUICK. I'd rather do the JDM ITR over JDM GSR. Why not go LS VTEC? You don't want teh "hassle" (or lack there of) of an LS VTEC but you want the hassle of auto to manual conversion?

I got to get me some damn skunk 2 cams. You think the power between the DTR header and the DC Sports header will have a significant difference.

Exactly. It does matters on your budget, but also how much you could get both motors for.

Actually, the price difference is quite a bit less than that. It seems that while GSR motors get more and more expensive with each passing day, ITR motors are getting cheaper and cheaper. These days, you definitely can't equal an ITR motor with a GSR motor unless you can get some kind of hookup on a GSR motor.
