Fuel Filter issue

I was replacing the fuel filter on my '92 Civic. The old filter came off easy enough with some elbow grease, but the bolt/pipe that goes in horizontally does not want to thread into the new filter. I tried the old filter just to make sure I wasn't going crazy and now that's not threading! Help!!
You might have damaged the threads on that bolt. And/or its just a bastard bolts which requires it be perfectly lined up to thread in.
Also this is the wrong forum for a '92.

we can still help you here though, Did you check the bolt to see if there's any damaged teeth on it? Either you have to try to line it up to screw it in or you'll have to get a new bolt.

The bolt did not seem to be damaged, although I did spend an inordinate amount of time trying to make sure it was perfectly lined up to no avail (And I have tightened a few screws previously). Maybe it is damaged and I just can't see it. Would you know if that replacement bolt be available genrically or is that a Honda-specific part?
