Default how to tell what model civic/crx you have?

my buddy just picked up a 1990 Honda Civic Hatch. The previous owner said it was a DX, but there are no emblems or anything on the title that says DX model. How can we tell what model he has bought? is there something in the VIN # that can tell us?

Just so you know it was a sohc with a 4spd manual, vynal seats, no rear speakers, no sunroof, no AC, no P/S, and steelies for wheels.

its a Standard (STD) model. the 4 speed tranny only came out in the most basic of all models, the STD.

DX's usually have a 5 spd and rear speaker pods....you got the STD/standard. Basically the lowest model hatch.

so how does this make it harder to put a ZC motor in. does it carry the same harness as the DX model...or.... will i still have to do the mpfi swap.

You will still have to do the mpfi wiring for a ZC in your base model just as you would for a DX. The only difference between a DX motor and a base model motor is a restrictor plate, exhaust manifold, ecu, 4 speed tranny and possibly the cam. They are both DPFI.
