Haha. Sorry that the funniest question I have heard in while.

But to answer your question, no. There needs to be a strong very strong force to deploy your air bags. Subs will never get close to that type of force, if they did, you would not live through it

force will not cause an air bag to deploy, but a strong acceleration will

And I would render it impossible for a subwoofer system to be able to accelerate the car in such a manner that the sensors would detect a crash and deploy the subs...

Deploy the subs?

No, woofers wont set the airbag sensor off. The only way would be if your car shook terribly violantly from it -- and I mean it, your car would probably fall apart before you ever tripped the bag sensor.

True. Damned physics But if you set the air bag sensor on the sub, it might be fun.

Never actually looked at one either, but that's how I would do it....I'm sure some of the more sophisticated systems employ multiple accelerometers around the car to monitor the status, but I'm not 100% sure...

I have heard before that it was rapid deceleration that trigger air bags, like running into a brick wall

The ones I have seen have a sensor behind the headlight and a point in front of it. When the collision happens the point punctures the sensor. Dont know about others but that is one type.

I agree. I don't think they put decelorometors into the airbag deploy systems. Just sensor points that will have the airbag deploy in conditions that warrant it.

There is a problem with that type of sensor. It would require that specific sensor to be hit. There are mutiple air bag sensors in a car. An accelerometer makes sense because it would be able to differentiate between false and real impacts. This way it doesn't just rely on one sensor. It would take data points from every sensor and then determines wether or not to deploy. In other words each sensor should have similiar outputs. I really don't know though because I have never really looked at one.

The airbag is harmfull in some situations so they have to have sensors to decide when to deploy the airbag.
