R&D Dyno H22 Cylinder Head
I was reading the October issue of Super Street and they had a civic with an H22 in it and they had a write up on how to install one of R&D Dyno's heads....basically the article stated after tuning that the head provided 15whp for $899 and you have to send them your head....turnaround time is 2 weeks.
The head comes back to you cleaned, resurfaced, CNC-ported, reassembled and some valve alterations are made to it.
For 15whp and a better flowing head all for $899 is a little steep(considering u can spend that much and get 75 at the flip of a switch) it seems ok.....
Im contemplating getting this done as im looking for a little more grunt from my lude....
i have a question tho....
my next modifications include NX wet kit and maybe and this is a BIG mabye...UR Pullies...including the crank....and a clutch....then whenever i get the money im building the motor for a big fat turbo
my question is can i run this ported head with a nitrous setup??? and what can i do to further maximize the gains??? im thinking throttle body???
and my last question is...when i go FI would this head be good to go with for my FI setup or would i have to get a new head and new P&P job just for FI???
i guess the 2nd question is the one really holding me back from getting this done....i dont want to spend money on it and then have to ditch it and get a new head and get that ported for FI use...
anyone have some insight on this???
TIA

head would be fine for nitrous use.
fine for turbo use as long as they dont skim
too much off the head and increase compression ratio by huge amounts, but this
can be tailored with gasket afterwards.
what are the valve alterations?
i would wait till you had bigger valves to put in.
further head mods... have the intake port matched...double dowelled with intake mani gasket, bored throttle body...should leave enough air flow thru there for sub2bar FI setups i would imagine.
15whp through just porting on NA seems reasonable...but more beneficial with a FI setup.. Bigger valves tho.
Shop around for head work prices...
you might as well have all the headwork done once you have all your bits to put onto it at the same time.
Run the Nitrous Oxide, but dont go crazy..
you may need new valves after a while with it anyways.. so get some oversized s/s valves, new springs and retainers, get the p&p done wiv 3angle valve job.
good gasket, standard cams, good intake & throttle body and you have a head that'll be good for a lot of boost theoretically.

that cnc port is bullshit. it wont gain you 15 whp. i have the same cnc head from R&D on my car and its bull ****!!!! go to someone who still hand ports like Alanaz, or Portflow, that cnc **** will never be as good as profession hand porter. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!!!!! and the person in the artickle gained more like 12 whp, not 15.
sounds like smoke and mirrors
contact my buddy Dave, he owns Head Games, about head porting, they're excellent

I've herd nothing but good things from Portflow, they seem to be a good company when it comes down to doing cylinder head work.

Its funny that f20b says its bullshit when he has the head on his car and from what i rememeber you picked up about 14hp to the wheels. F20b baselined at 199 and ended up making 213 with only the head swap. You can't deny that the head does make power. I also like alaniz and portflow heads both are excellent head porters.
I personaly know that R&D does a good job on your porting. My brother-in-law works there and he is a very good mechanic. I am taking my head there to get ported when I get my new car. AEM trust them, they use there dyno all the time to test out new products. My opinion send it in you will be happy with the results! I think you should go all motor dont squeze. Just work on internals and you will be very happy with the results. You should throw in some Jun cams and header and you will feel some power. You will kill cats on the freeway!!!
Nah no all motor....i agree i would love to and i would get alot of respect for an all motor car where i live but if im going to spend that much on the motor, im going to go turbo
and besides im a HP junkie
and besides im a HP junkie
i say its BULLSHIT because when i took it back to Erick for a re-tune, YOUR TUNE AND YOUR BULLSHIT HEAD made less power on his dyno. WHAT THE **** IS THAT ALL ABOUT?? 14 whp nothing, from YOUR tuning i lost all throughout the powerband, from low end throttle responce to top end pull, the power YOU made was all smoke and mirrors!! why is it that i made alot less hp on ericks dyno? and dont give me that bullshit about SAE corrected dyno. im looking at the graph not the peak number. oh and i do have dyno graphs of how shitty PROSPEED tuned my car.

Could it be a different dyno? how much did you end on losing?

Is this R&D CNC head for $899, the one the Prospeed sells for $1000?
A friend of mine, the guy int he magazine, said he got his CNC proted head from Prospeed for an "introductory price" of $1000, which seemed good since Prospeed said they would later charge $1800...
Now i see they are going for $899... What a SCAM....

Can you please stop posting this pointless garbage & give us a reason why we should believe you? How can you expect anyone to take you seriously when you have yet to provide a single shred of evidence to support your claims?
Let's see the dyno charts in question, and hear the details of your situation. What kind of dyno's were used? What are the specifics of your build & tune? Supply the data in question, and let people draw their own conclusions.

f20bcivic well you cant really say the head sucks cause they can prove it did 15hp. Think about it though, they probably had the car on the dyno tuning it for like days and Ericks probably had your car on the dyno for no more then 5 or so hours. Plus who knows maybe your motor is jacked up.

That's not how it works. A head is mounted on a flow-bench, then hundreds of hours spend hand porting it. When it's all done it becomes the Golden Unit. The head is placed on a coordinate scanner, which exactly plots the surface, inside and out, of the head. This information is the map used to replicate the original. Presumably after the first CNC version is done it is compared to the original. After that it's just a matter of making more... and they're all just like the original.
So your car may indeed have problems, but dont' blame it soley on the fact that it has a CNC head on it. That alone doesn't have anything to do with it.
BTW, the invention of the CNC process has really caused some problems with head porting services. What's to keep some weasel from buying an excellent CNC'd head that the maker spend a fortune creating, then scanning it in and selling his duplicate CNC version as his own?

ALLmotor18. I never said the head was going to be 1800. We were intially planning on selling it for more but decided to go back down on the pricing. I will be offering the heads now at the lower price. Im sorry if i confused anyone. As far as f20b dyno graph is concerned here it is showing that he didn't lose power throughout it powerband. The dyno is a dynojet. He is comparing a dynojets graph to the bosch dynograph. Also you say that you only picked up peak power? Anyone that looks at the graph can see that you picked up power starting from 6000 rpm to 9000rpm.
do you have a cnc head? did you paid $1000 for less than 10 whp gain? can you shut up.you dont know **** of the situation, so leave your dumb *** out of it. when i get the dyno graphs scanned ill show you all. the power i thought i made from BRAIN was all lies. i didnt make 14 extra hp. i lost it all, i didnt gain any hp with his tune. i got out of the dyno session and my car felt more slow than before his bullshit tune. BRIAN CANT TUNE FOR ****. But i do admit the head made some power, not $1000 worth, but i saw gains of like 7 whp, not 14. after i got my old chip back. oh brain i want my ERICKS chip back, your chip is a piece of ****!!!
i didnt pick up just peak, i LOST low end, LOST mid range and i lost peak!! All you care about is making money, you dont care about your customers.

i also have a question for you???
is this for the R&D Dyno head or some other head???

The head of f20b was flowed supposely!!!!!! When we asked Brian and the guys at r&d for the flow charts they said "we lost them".....
Just to let you guys know Brian(prospeed) is all about the money!!! He doesnt give a **** about you or your car he just wants to make money...... even if it takes putting up fake *** numbers!!!!! So for all you people blinded by this con....goodluck and have fun being ripped off.
A word for Brian...... hey man you better watch who you're ripping off...because one day you're gonna **** with the wrong people and get fucked over.....actually I hope you and your shop do get fucked over!!!!!!!!
