How often do you guys change your transmission fluid?
I have about 2600 miles and was wondering if changing out the fluid with fresh honda MTF would be a good idea. i want to change the fluid now in case there might be some metal shavings in there during the breakin process. all input is appreciated. if it matters, i dont drive my car hard at all(very fast/hard shifting, power shifting,etc...)
thanks
thanks

since your car is still about new i wouldnt change the tranny fluid till after about 10k-15k depending on driving habits. i changed my tranny fluid around 17k and the s2 needed it...grinds were more frequent and 5th and 6th gear were harder to get into.i do drive my car "spirited" sometimes...so it does matter.now i plan to change my tranny fluid with genuine honda mtf every other oil change...about every 6k miles. good luck

I would wait until after 5K then change tranny and diff. You can probably let the tranny go longer and it won't hurt anything, but like you said it might be a good idea just to get the "gunk" out. The diff on the other hand will most likely be pretty dirty (from most accounts I've heard and from my car).
I believe Honda recommends changing the tranny fluid every 30k miles. Changing before that would probably be even better, especially if hard driven miles are accumulated. I would wait a little longer, say 10k miles before changing it..

thanks for the great responses. btw i did change my differential fluid at 2k miles, lots of people recommend it on s2ki.com. and they were right, the fluid came out very thick and black, smelled pretty bad too(sulfuric). i am now using mobil 1 75w90 and the rearend seems "quieter" now than before. you guys should get this done ASAP if you haven't yet. we all know the differentail is the weakest link on the s2000, so its a good idea to give this part the extra attention it needs.

Thats for the heads up on the diff. I changed my brothers tranny fluid at 10k with GM Syncromesh, and it shifts like butter. The old tranny fluid was still in good shape though, and he drives crazy hard. I haven't changed mine yet, probably do it next oil change (I've put about 15k on mine since I got it).

Good choice of rearend fluids
That's what I'm running as well and it works quite well...but isn't it a pain to change that? Seriously...they could've made it easier to get to the fill bolt.

well i work at a honda dealership and i had access to a lift. once you have the car on the lift, everything is much easier to do. for the fill bolt, i borrowed one of those oil pumps from a tech and it worked perfectly. i guess you can buy these pumps from a auto store for like 10-20 bucks. it has a hose that can be attached to the fill hole, its really easy if you have the right tools.
good luck.

I changed the tranny fluid on my S2K at 15K miles and I used genuine Honda MTF. I've had the car for a year and five months. IMO, I wouldn't wait till the factory recomended 39K miles or 2 years if you daily drive the car
I didn't change the diff. fluid becuase I will be doing the 4.77 FD swap soon.
