Neuspeed Suspension products
Anybody have the neuspeed Race springs and/or coilovers on their car. I was just wondering how they handle and what your overall impressions of them are. I have a friend who bought the full coilovers for his civic but he sold the car and will sell them to me for 600 bucks BRAND NEW. Since they retail for about 1000 dollars I know this is a pretty good deal, but I don't want to buy something if it isn't worth it. I plan to drive my car aggressively on the street. Any comments welcome about neuspeed products: coilovers, race springs, sport springs, etc.
I can't give you much specific info about them, but I may be able to help a little. Neuspeed, in general, is very good.
The Sport springs are a compromise between ride and performance and almost everyone I've heard that had them was pleased with them, BUT they are not for seriously aggressive driving. They will drop your car (on average) 1.5-1.75 inches.
The Race springs are their performance springs, built to work on stock or aftermarket shocks. They are much stiffer and will drop the car rougly 2.25 inches.
Now the full Neuspeed coil-overs are supposed to be incredibly bad-***. The coilover is based off the Race spring, and it is built on a Koni adjustable shock with a shortened shaft. I have not heard from anyone that has these yet, but that's not a half bad price, IF they really are the full coilovers. I'd say go for them...

Nobody on this board has ever tried neuspeed suspension products? Or at least ridden in a car with neuspeed springs or coilovers????? That's hard to believe. Still waiting for other comments.
No, there are tons of people on here that have neuspeed products. there are lots with neuspeed sport and race springs. I said that I haven't heard from anyone that has the COILOVERS...
I HAD Neuspeed coilovers on my old 4drGSR... they were badass. They were the Neuspeed/Bilstein combo and the ride was absolutely amazing. Very nice setup for street. I'm not sure if they are good enough for competition though... but again, a very nice street setup. I have KYB/Skunk now and I would go back to the Neuspeeds in a heartbeat... nothing like a "true" coilover setup. I may switch back when I get some extra dough.
Thanks for all your helpful advice guys, I think that I'm probably going to get them. Spyder: I understood what you were talking about, don't want it to seem like I'm ungrateful, thanks for your post! Any other comments on neuspeed welcome!
hey guys...i dont want to say anything negative about the neuspeed coilovers, but i have them....i wish i got something else!!! they're good and all, don't get me wrong. but i had mine for a year and a half and they are rusted to ****!!! yes i took care of them and all that happy horse ****...but seeing that i paid like a grand for them...i am pretty pissed. the other thing i don't like about them is that you can nly adjust the height nad not the stiffness of the shock. for a grand, i think you should be able to!!!!

Did you clean them with WD-40 once a month? I heard its neccessary. Rusted!!! After just one year! Man, that makes me seriuosly reconsider this deal!
DeceitfulCivic: That's okay, it's all good. I did kinda over-react...sorry...
slowasscx: I can definately understand you being pissed over the situation, especially considdering the cost... but also keep in mind that neuspeeds are by no means the only coilovers to rust. I've also heard of Sprint, Weapon-R, Skunk2 and Ground Control units rusting out even though their owners took extremely good care of them... It's not just a Neuspeed thing...

Don't worry about it Spyder, were cool. Man, so these things are bound to rust eventually? What a crock! I'm not going to but them if this is the case. I'd much rather have a non-adjustable spring/shock setup than one that is going to ******' rust! What a rip!!!!
Basically coil-overs are good for track use, they weren't meant for the street. Sure they're good and stiff, but on the streets they're gonna give you a ride to hell and back, they will bust your kidneys and liver apart...
How much of a drop are you looking for? If you're going for about 1.5", go for the Neuspeed Sports on Koni Yellow shocks. If you want about 2.25" and a little stiffer ride, swap the Sports for Neuspeed Race springs on the Koni Yellows.
Another option I just found out about for a 1.5" drop is the Tokico Advanced Handling Kit. They take either their Tokico Blues or Illuminas and built a spring similar to the Neuspeed Sport around the shock. Basically the springs are made exactly for the shock. If you go this route, I would recommend getting the kit with the Illuminas (adjustable), not the Blues (non-adjustable). They don't say a lot about them on the website, but here's a link anyway, the kit is on the top right.http://www.tokicogasshocks.com/car/springkit.html.
I've done a good bit of research on suspensions for our cars, so if you have any other questions just drop me a note...

Oh yeah, one question slowasscx....do you live up north or near the coast? if so, that explains why they rusted so quickly... Just curious because I was thinking about the Neuspeed coilovers myself, that or the Tokico Adv. Suspension Kit...
Spyder, what's up! Yeah, I think your right abouy being up north, because the weather up there is alot different than down here in Texas. I don't think that rust would be such a big issue in our state. I have been researching the neuspeed coilovers for a couple a months now also. Basicly, its a billstein threaded shock body, matched to neuspeed race springs. I know this is going to be alot stiffer than stock, but it seems like a good value for what I would pay anyways for a good spring/shock combo. I live in Houston, and the streets here are pretty tuff, but I've heard from several other people on other boards that the neuspeed coilovers handle alright for street, a little stiff, but still good. I think when most people complain, its because they get a coilover suspension for the sole purpose of lowering their car, not for performance. They are looking for a lower stance or slammed show look, not realizing that most coilovers are intended to improve performance (which means more stiffness, less body roll) rather than just lower the car and retain a stock level of ride comfort. Me on the other hand, I want performance on the twisties, so I am willing to sacrifice a certain amount of comfort. I am fully aware that by going with a full race coilover that my ride will be alot stiffer. I think that overall the neuspeed coilovers are a great value, Billsteins are top of the line, and neuspeed is a fairly reputable company. And for the price I'm getting them at, and for my purpose, Ithink they will fit the bill. I just got a little paranoid when slowasscx started to talk about rusting over. I know the coilovers take some maintenance, and plus we don't get snow or alot of sea salt in the air over here. I think they hold up better in climates without these different weather extremities. BTW, if you are looking into the coilover setup, my friend originally got his at neuspeed.com for 799 shipped. They usually retail for over a thousand. Not bad, huh?
One other thing that makes them good is that the Billstiens used on the neuspeed coilovers have a shortened shaft. the short shaft ensures that you won't blow out the shocks if you hit a hard bump.
Dude, if you're ever coming down this way, let me know!

Man, I've actually been planning to go to SA for a while, but school and work has been keepin' me glued down. Plus I'm going to have to get a #uckin' surgery on this rib I busted while weightlifting a few months back
Sucks. But yeah, no prob Spyder and if you ever make it down to the smog capital of the U.S. give me a hollar! BTW, I think I'm going to go for the neuspeeds, what do yuh think? I mean screw it, for about half price who wouldn't? PEACE

Ok First of all... Dont listen to a thing that slowass says.. that kid doesnt know his a$$ from his elbow when it comes to cars
Seriously though... My Neuspeeds never rusted and I live about 25 miles from slowass... it's called car maintenence... I'll have to give slowass a little lesson on it I guess.
As for adjustablility... if you know anything about Bilstein shocks, thats their claim to fame. They don't need to be adjustable dampening-wise because they have a self adjusting system internally. Thats why they are such a good shock on the street. They stiffen up as they need to. The harder you go into a corner, the more the internal mechanism raises the dampening level. You can also get the Bilsteins custom revalved if they arent stiff enough. But like I said, for the street this is a great setup.
Please try not to listen to slowass in the future if you are looking on advice for anything. If you want to learn how to talk $hit than he's your man... but thats about it

Hey, 4drGSR, so you had the coilovers? Cool. Why don't you still have 'em? They are a smart investment then in your opinion. Thanks for your post, I appreciate it!!
Thanks, Spyder. So he had custom springs?? Well, than its tough to judge from his statement whether or not the setup my friend is selling will perform as good as his. It could be teeth-chattering uncomfortable with what they sent my buddy. He just ordered the kit for the 2000 Civic EX-he didn't specify any custom spring rate.
I didnt get any custom spring rates... the springs said "race" on them though. I'm pretty sure they are in fact race springs and that the guy you talked to is wrong. The box says Neuspeed Sport Springs but I think all the boxes say that. I dunno, sounds like the ones your boy are getting are the sames one I had though. The reason I dont have them anymore is because I sold the car with them on. You may want to look into the Bilstein coilovers too.. they just came out with thier own line and I think they are cheaper by 1-200 bux. I originally bought mine for 900.

But overall, you like 'em right? I mean you could tolerate them for daily driving and everything? Not too too stiff? Or are you just one of those guys that drives his modded car on the weekends and just uses the 911 Porsche on the weekdays?
