Another R almost gets stolen!
Well guys, I never thought I would expeirience this, but as I was walking down to my car today after school, I see two school cops gathered around my car. At this point, I'm thinking, "Oh ****, here comes another ticket." But this wasn't the case this time. I look right next to my car and I see a little green ricer civic. I proceed to get closer to my car when the guy in the civic drives off. The officer asks me if I knew him. I told him no, but I have seen him crusing around before. He said, "Well, I just caught him looking in your windows and trying to open your doors by the handle when you weren't around. He didn't look like a student that I have seen before, that's why I stopped to check things out." I was speechless. He then tells me that it would be wise to drive something else to school and that he'd try and keep an eye out for it. So, my question(s) for you guys is this: What is a good alarm with immobilizer and chit? I know it won't stop my car from being stolen, but it will definitly make me feel better. Oh yeah, I would like one with a cool *** noise along with the lights to flicker when I lock and unlock the car. They look and sound so bad *** lol. Also, hood locks. How much? What kind? Where do I get one? Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate your help!
get an autolock.. alpine alram.. and install like 4 kill switches (at the most odd locations you can possibly think off) it will help.. if they really want your car they will have it one way or the other.. but those few things above should help at least some..
Ryan, I'm telling you man.
Although you might not feel as vulnerable as others are because you live in Atlanta, There is still a high pricetag on our cars and parts. Be safe and think wisely about whether or not you should take it to school. It's not going to hurt to park your car at home. The only thing that will hurt is your pride when people see your parents dropping you off or you riding a bike to school...
hey do whatever it takes to get the odds back on your side.
Good Luck

Get an alarm with a pageing system. Get a hood pin for your alarm. Get multiple battery powered backup sirens with one inside your car. Get multiple kill switches. Park your car where you KNOW your pager will still work (range issues due to steel and concrete are common). And most importantly, get the alarm installed by a reputable company with certified and bonded installers. Be very picky about who does the actual instalation.

After getting a good alarm system, you should leave the R at home. Don't take it to school!! If you look at the many other post here about the R being stolen you would think twice. I believe I read one Type R being missing every week here.

Most of the devices on TV (autolock, club, whatever) only slow the thieves for about 10 seconds per device. How do I know? My car was stolen with two devices on the car (autolock and club). These devices may deter the common thief, but not the professional. Listen to all of the advice above and get a hood lock. I just bought a full proof security device this past weekend....another car !!!! I bought a car that I can use as a beater and I am locking my R up and using it mostly for autocross and cruising around.
Your best bet is to get something like Clifford alarm w/ DEI paging system. So, you better bolt when that pager goes off.
Autolock works to a certain extent. It probably can be defeated by a professional thief... but should deter any ricer joy-riders.

Here is my suggestion. Along with a good alarm, get a car cover with a lock. I will post pics of what my car looks like in the parking lot everyday. As soon as I get to work I put the cover on and Usually lock it. Sounds like a lot of work but it isn't. It takes me 20 secs to put on and 15sec to take off. Keeps people from seeing what kind of car it is and looking in the windows to see what you have not to mention, protects the outside paint and interior from sun damage.
My 2 cents.
If you can, get a daily driver!!

getting a HOODLOCK is a good investment....and of course your alarms and all those other anti-theft device out there like your autolock, club, and one of them boot for your wheel.....
There is a certain alarm you can purchase that will turn off your ignition system so even if people get in your cars they won't be able to start it. I know VW uses it now on their stock cars and it saves people a fortune.
I would find the RiceBoy and confront him with a few friends.
On a serious note, car-cover is good idea, but when it rains it's a sumofabitch to put on and you will scratch your paint. Oh, and the lock that comes with the cover is a joke...
Hood locks and locking car covers are great ideas (yes, they're a hassle, but they can be effective). In addition, disconnect your coil wire or better yet put it in your backpack and take it with you. If you don't snag the coil wire or disable the car somehow, they will get it if they want it. And if they watch you to see that you take the coil wire with you, they'll bring their own! Maybe that $500 daily driver beater IS the best idea. Good luck to you.
yeah, it will scratch it. I don't put in on when my car is dirty but I try to keep in very clean both inside and outside so for the most part, I cover it everyday.
Sorry dude. But I cant buy into that whole car cover thing. Not flaming, but C'mon thats ridiculous! Here in NYC you can have a f*cking locked car cover and they'll still steal your car. R-adrenaline your roomates car was probably targeted beforehand. And maybe in Kansas domestics are hotter for theft than on the coasts but. There is no way to make your R 100% safe. And assuming a car cover will keep you safe is a false sense of security. Be a little more realistic!
I'd like to see how long your R lasts with a car cover on it in the Bronx....Uhh about 10 minutes.

Rondo: Take every plug wire and the plugs if you want, a theif targeting ITRs will have your car in less than 2 minutes.
None of the suggestions above will work for anything except joyriders.
Leave the ITR @ home, for the money you'll spend on the alarm, etc. you can buy an old car with working AC to drive to school and such.

I totally agree with you from the aspect that if someone wants your car...they will get it regardless of what you have to protect it. I am talking from a point of keeping people from taking the trouble of pulling the cover off which will cause the alarm to go off and eat up more time for the thief when there is another car parked next to you that is easier to steal. Another case in point, I agree with you about living in Kansas City and on the East Coast. We don't see theft like you guys do on the east coast or the west coast or event the south but every little bit helps.
Besides, I wouldn't have bought an R if I lived in the Bronx

Get a $500 beater to drive to school. If someone wants the car, it's gone.
I highly Agree Just think of how many Door dings you wont get on the R also
I have a 100 dollar beater. When I start school that's what I'm taking. My R doesn't have any anti-theft device on it. It's locked up in my brother's garage 89% of the time and I only take it out on weekends or cruising.
If I ever go to a store alone I park near the front. I know what I am getting and make it the quickest trip ever. If I'm carrying a passenger, I'll wait outside by the car and let passenger go in by themself.

I really hope an ITR owner catches a thieving bastard in the act of stealing, beat the **** out of him until he/she is a bloody mess, stick a bat up his ***, make this a national headline on the major networks, let the ITR owner walk out of this unharmed and trouble free, otherwise, someone make an example out of a thief. This **** (is) really prevented(preventing) me to buy an ITR.
Don't drive your R to school anymore.......they know you go to school there....they will come back try to steel it again. Alarm/ locks is not gonna help, do a search and you will see a lot of ppl's car got stolen and they all have alarm or lock !!!
The most easy for the theives to steel our car is when they know you will park in certain place everyday for the same time ( eg: school, work place, home.....etc) cuz they've time to " plan " how to steel it
