may unbolt from the underside...don't remember. You can buy speaker harness adapters...but it's a waste of money...just cut the plug and wirethem in.

i replaced my rears last week in my 2000 civic with polk dB 6x9s, and yes i payed the extra $7 to get the adaptors, that way when i want to sell the car i can replace the stock speakers with ease.

You have to remove the side panels. Then take the three child safety seat covers off and remove the bolts(if equipped with these). There is also a cover around the rear seat lock that has to be removed. Then just pop the package tray up and pull forward. Then you can get to the screws to remove the speakers. Hope this helps. I did it on my 2000 so I am not sure everything is the same.

That's pretty much it... But in my 98 ex, I needed to remove the back seat bottom to get the side panels out. They just pop out with some force. Can't remember if I needed to contend with the seatbelt bolts or not... It's been a while since I installed the JL's in the rear deck... Have fun!
