Broken Vtec on my Geezeeerrrr
Theres something wrong w/ my 96 geezer swap and it's pissing me off. My Vtec isn't screaming like it's supposed to scream at 5k. All my other friends vtec hits loud as hell at 5k. I just swapped this motor in, one of my friends says it's the intake that i'm using, but my car doens't seem to pull like it's supposed to when vtec kicks in. The only time i can kind of hear the vtec is when i'm hitting the butterfly around 7k u kind of hear, but it's not even loud the way I want it and should be. When i first put the gsr swap in I kinda of heard it on stock exhaust, but then i put a spoon exhuast in and it didn't help at all, i just heard straight exhaust, no screaming Vtec!!!!!
HELP ME!!!! I need HELP!!!!
HELP ME!!!! I need HELP!!!!
im not sure why your vtec isn't kicking in, but i know it shouldnt have anything to do with your intake and that on GSR's vtec doesnt kick in until 6000
not owning a vtec equipted car i cannot speak from experence but.....depending on obd1 or 2 i know there are several things that are needed inorder for vtec enguagement to take place. there is an oil pressure sensor, speed sensor, load or MAP, and there is also a solonoid that must be currectly wired in order for this to work. Please give us alittle more back ground info in order to better assist you.
make sure you have plenty of oil. it is the #1 easist thing to check for and the #1 easiest thing to not have enough of in your car for vtec to not engage.
well you probably dont know what you are doing. First of all this is why I think you don't know what you are doing. The Vtec change over on the GSR ecu for all years on the DC2 platform is 4400 rpm. The Intake manifold seccondary butterfly valves open up at around 5500 rpm. You will only hear the Change over if you have a tubular intake pipe and a air filter on there. The stock air box muffles the nois pretty good. you can hear it with the stock box but its not too loud. No audible unless you are listening for it. Neways get a book look at the wireing diagram. Is the MAP sensor CORRECTLY installed? Is the Vtec pressure switch installed is the Vtec Solenoid hooked up. DO YOU HAVE OIL IN YOUR CAR. and do you have a VTEC enabled ECU? I suggest you take it to a mechannic and get it done right. I run autox and I see hella botched cars with all this cool "akimoto" **** and they are sooo ******* slow its insane.
Its not rare that you don't hear it, I don't usually hear mine, and you won't be able to notice a deference in pull...the secondaries you should definatly hear...at 5800, vtec is at 4400 in 1rst and 4800 in the other gears

Well before you FLAME the guy and tell him he dosent know what hes doing Ask about his setup. Mabye he has a chipped ECU with the Vtec X over set higher If it was working before and not now Id check the Oil thats the most common reason It would stop working.....<<<< Also a

All my fluids have been changed, i had the garage guy install my motor, the thing is my check engine light is on too....so that might possibly be a problem? All i know is i want my vtec to scream and kick in like it's supposed to. I just recently bought the motor off a guy and put it in. And from the first day my vtec never really kicked in
I'm on obd1 w/ a 96 gsr swap into my 96 ls integra

The check engine light probably put it in to safe mode or whatever you call it. Vtec wont kick in sometimes when you throw a CEL. Get that code checked, i bet that's why its not working.

you sir are wrong! vtec kicks in at 4800 and the secondaries open at 5800.

looks like the VTEC bandwagon. if the screaming vtec is sooo important to you, get an aftermarket intake. or take tha resonator out. also, make sure that you are at Wide open throttle, you have great oil pressure, your car is at normal temp, and vtec should kick in. if your intake manifold isnt a dual stage then you wont hear secondary butterflies at 5800 rpms. and for the record, vtec doesnt give you more pull or power, it just keeps the torque at higher rpms.

there is so much mis-information in this thread. On all GS-Rs VTEC kicks in at 4400 (I think officially its 4450) in all gears and the secondary intake runners kick in at 5750 (according to service manual).
What ECU are you running? Is everything wired correctly? Check your VTEC solenoid. Check your oil level. Also, VTEC won't kick in unless water temp is at operating level, oil pressure is correct, throttle is at a certain level, etc etc...

If you are running a obd1 ecu did you change everything elce to obd1? That would be my first guess. Was the vtec even ever wired? As far as it screaming, hate to break it to you but a gsr vtec is not that noticiable. You should be able to hear a change in pitch, but nothing drastically dramatic. Is it faster than you ls motor? the best way that i can hear the vtec in my gsr is to give it about half throttle, just enogh so vtec activates at 4450. Then I can hear the pitch change. And what kind of cars do you friends have that vtec hits at 5k? itr? prelude?
Do you have a stock GSR manifold or aftermarket? The only reason you should only feel\hear a change after 4400 is because the butterflies in the stock GSR manifold open up at 5800 and allow even more air into the cylinders. aftermarket intake manifolds do not have these.

nice post one-upper...that's in first ONLY. 4800 in all other gears...but i'm only establishing something someone else already stated...oh my god..just like what you did...try reading the threads before posting *** hat.
