Default I saw this question before but I can't find it....fan keeps running after car shuts off!!

I just need to know which relay it is and where it's located. The fan occasionally runs after the car is shut off. Sometimes it even starts up as you're walking away from the car. Any info is appreciated.

News to me. Since when? I've had other Integras, and not once did the fan continue to run.

My car doesn't overheat. I hope yours blows up if it hasn't. I didn't come here to computer fight. I came here for advice from other Integra owners.

A classmate of my girfriend's had lighting strike the ground real close to her car.
Her fan does as you describe.

the fan stays on so your engine will cool down faster. i think it is pretty much common sense to anyone that has any mechanical or technical knowledge.

My old DA never did that, but we do have a 91 prelude that does it all the time. yeah it is to cool the engine off after "long" drives i guess, like a NA turbo timer it usually stays on for a couple of minutes, than it shuts off. never "drained" the battery or anything if that's a concern. as to answering your 1st question, i'm not sure which relay would do that, or how to disable that...unless you want to hook up a switch to the fan to manually turn it on/off, or just leave it constant...good luck

Typically with electric fan setups, the radiator temp sensor and fan motor are not on ignition switched power. Meaning they can come on whenever. The purpose of running the fan after shutoff isn't to cool the engine (think about it, the water pump isn't moving) but rather to cool off the water in the radiator so that it doesn't boil/overflow/belch. Every car with electric fans I've owned was like this. Some cars just do it more than others. It depends a lot on the setup and condition of your cooling system as well as the ambient temperature. You might try flushing your coolant if you think it's happening too often.

edited to add: Almost forgot, when I changed my '76 Corvette over to electric fans, the instruction supplied by Spal said specifically NOT to hook the fans up to ignition switched power. They're powered directly from the battery. And if I'm fiddling with the engine when it's still hot, you'd better believe I pull that wire loose.

older Hondas are wired this way, newer ones (94-up Integras specifically) are not. If you have a newer Integra and the fan comes on with the car off, then you have a wiring problem.
