your not gonna gain much from those type-s cams for the money. if you want much better gains go with a skunk2 or crower stage two cams or stage 1 if you dont want to worry about your valvetrain reliability.

i tuned a 98 base prelude with about the same mods you have except he had a RC bored out throttlebody, V-AFC, straight-pipe, stock cam gears, stock intake manifold, and stock head...he put down 196 WHP with type-S cams.

I have the Crower Stage 2's with springs and retainers, and they make good power all the way to my 8100 redline, 195 whp on a 3rd gear dyno. Just make sure after you get them you get it tuned before you rev it into VTEC, you'll be way lean.

94VtecMN:

What are your mods? 195whp is pretty nice for Crower Stage 2's and I assume the usual I/H/E? V-AFC?

I have a 94 Vtec too w/just I/H/E and I am interested in Crower Stages 2's.

Did you ever dyno it B4 the Cams? Just Curious what that mod alone picked-up for your WHP.

THANKS!

PS: were you the guy who had to file down some places to get the Crowers to fit - was that a real pain in the *** or what? Is directions for doing that or a write-up?

Anyone with webcams? I heard they were pretty good and custom built to your specs.

My mods are the usual, DC DAC Intake, DC CC 4-2-1 Header, stock cat(ouch), Greddy PE exhaust, AEM underdrive pullies, Dinan chip(8100 redline), V-AFC, Type-S pistons, Eagle rods, Manual tensioner conversion, and the Crower top end.

I did not do the install of my cams, but my builder who did explained that all the rockers needed to be ground a little to miss the titanium retainers. It's a bit of a pain, but if you know it going into it in advance, it's not too bad.

As for before numbers, it's hard to say exactly what I got, I'll explain. I put down 176whp before, on one shops dyno who did 3 runs in 4th gear, and the 195whp after was on a different dyno done in 3rd gear. The guy that tuned my car to 195 said everyone that goes to the other shop always dyno's higher there. Why? I'm guessing the 3rd vs. 4th gear, and maybe some other factors. So, with that said, I figured the nearly 20 whp I gained was pretty good. I want to go back to the other shops dyno just to get an apples to apples comparison soon.

Having my Jdm cams regrinded to more of an FI profile, not to expensive. half the cost of new skunk2's and will work very very nice
