Default oil leak in spark plugs

a while back when i went to paint the valve cover, the 1st spark plug hole was filled to the top with oil... we cleaned it out, put in a new valve cover seal, and its been all good since then.. went to change my spark plugs/wires last night, and when i pulled 'em, the spark plugs were soaked in oil... all 4 of 'em.... im making power up to 9k (fully built engine), and the only time smoke is seen is when i'm flooring it, in which case my friend told me he once saw a blueish smoke come out... could it be blown headgasket or crack in the block? if not, what else could it be???? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

sounds like you need new rubber o rings for the valve cover...take off the valve cover and you should see these O rings for the spark plug holes...mine leaked as well but then i replaced them..no more leaks.

Careful when tightening those bolts.
It's not good to snap those bolts, the key here is consistency with the torque wrench.

I don't think tightening will help. On mine, the gasket sits in a groove, & when you install the VC the metal NEXT TO the groove clamps down. So by overtightening the VC nuts, you're just cranking down on the metal-to-metal contact. You're not compressing the gasket any further.

Look for defects in the surface of the gasket. & defects in the surface that it mates up against.

ok well as it turns out, im burning a helluva lot of oil... the dipstick was DRY when i checked it today theres still blue smoke coming out, and i knwo it cant be the gromets, cuz ALL FOUR spark plugs have oil on them... could it be valveseals or piston rings? there's just oil on the bottom 3 threads of the spark plugs, there's no oil on top.... i'm also runing extremely rich, but im getting it tuned soon. im really startin to worry here..

yea but ONLY your #3 has oil... all 4 of mine have it, so it can't just be the orings/gromets in the valvecover... its gotta be something big, and i dont think it's the piston rings, unless all 4 piston rings are bad....

They are called rubber grommets or sparkplug grommets - do all 4 - clean out the rims with a q-tip to get the excess oil out.

Blue smoke is an indication your piston rings may going bad. Get a leak down performed on your engine, this will tell you if your piston rings are starting to fail. You also mention your are runnning rich, Do you have a custom ECU, VAFC, etc.......That could also be causing you these problems. I would take it easy on the car until you can source the problem.

as i said before, i highly doubt ALL FOUR grommets would have gone bad at the same time.. it's gotta be something big that could leak oil into all places (which i cant possibly think of anything..) the bottom 3 threads of the spark plugs are wet, the tops are mostly dry....

as far as the leak down test, i'll try that. i have a mugen chipped ecu (garbage), and im getting my s200 hondata installed and tuned soon (i've been waiting to do this for months). thanks for the help guys! much appreciated

ok well i've still got that oil leak goin on.. but there's an issue with the damn starter. (its been like this for a long time, i just never bothered to do anything about it, but now its gettin bad) everytime i go to start it, (i have a new starter, msd ignition stuff), it goes WAAAA like an electrical type thing, but nothing turns over nor does anything attempt to turn over, it just gives me that annoying sound... it randomly does it, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt, sometimes it just does it once and i start it up right after that, sometimes i sit there for 20 minutes and its still goin WAAAAA anyone ever had this weirdass problem??? right now, = and lol

Do a compression test right away. Your rings are going. Same thing happened to me.

First off. Leakdown will let you know alot. My first guess (because I have researched it alot and am going through it right now with my car) is your oil rings are going. A compression test will not really reflect the problem you are facing with the oil rings. Second problem; hard starting is a known problem with aftermarket ecu chips. My car does it every now and then. A few other people I know have the same problem. It is a fact of life with an aftermarket ecu chip. Get your rings done. My money is on those failing.
