hatch or a del sol is the lightest you can get (I think) unless you go back and get something old.
and it seems to me that the weight distribution on a hatch would be better than on coupe. not to mention if you are planning on a serious car (like me
) then you are going to reduce as much weight as possible, and it would be infinately easier to cut the weight off of a hatch, and add a rollcage than with a coupe.
just my thoughts, but if you don't want a hatch, that just means there is one more for me to choose from when I decide it is time to buy!

1) honda(don't be different), more parts available
2) OBDI, more options and less expensive (because, duh, it's older)
3) integra, since for that budget i assume no engine swap (maybe if you find the right deal, dunno)

one thing to consider, if you're road racing in a sanctioned body then they might have different rules that will put you pretty high in the competition if you do a lot of mods (there's a couple that you'll be racing all out porsches and **** if you do an engine swap in a civic).
Is this car ever going to see the street?
Take a look at CRXs (cheap to buy and modify), 240s (not ideal for road racing but if set up right...), Datsun 510s & 240s/280s(again, cheap to buy & modify unless you get extreme, great for road racing)...
and hey maybe a chevy truck!!! that would be perfect for road racing....

Boost and RoadRace don`t always mesh in a Honda. I know you don`t want a hatch, but a cheap *** b16 CRX makes a damn good track car. Hell, a miata would even get the job done.
If you are into road racing, I think a G2 Integra GSR wouldn't be bad... Went out in a friend's G2 Integra LS over the weekend and damn does it have solid suspension! He just had springs, shocks, struts, and sways, but damn... I was very very impressed. They must have a good center of gravity or something. It was fun, to say the least.
Anyway... my $.02.
