getting a new frame
i'm picking up a very cheap 01 gixxer that has a ding in the frame on the left hand side where the vin sticker is. and i've seen a lot of people selling frames for bikes (with papers) on various sites. my question is what do i need to do to make it all legal if i were to swap frames? is it pretty much the same as a car? i'm in cali by the way.
easiest/cheapest would be to go with one of those big salvage yards that sell stuff on eBay. I remember a few being in cali/az. You need a legit frame w/ vin and papers.

I'm picking up a bike from buddy thats been wrecked. gongshow gave me this number where they might be able to fix the frame. If they can't, ima have to find a new frame. hopefully they can fix it though since there prices are really reasonable.
yea i'm gettin it from a salvage yard with papers. just needed to know what process i need to go thru to make it all legal.
also what places are there around the bay area to have your frame checked out?

some advice,
The first thing the DMV will look for when they check your bike is the emissions sticker. They can be a bitch about that. If the bike has some miles on it (I think 7500) they don't bother with it. But if you're claiming less miles, be ready. I forgot where the emissions sticker is on the suzi gsxr, but in the 929's and 954's, it's in the trunk. If you're getting the bike and parts from out of state, just make sure you find the piece that has the sticker on it from a CA bike. It makes things much easier. Good luck with the rebuild.

I don't know about that Ivan. When it comes to that stuff I tend to play dumb. I've never had anyone check the vin from the engine. It's hard enough for them to find the one for the frame.

Like that bike I'm getting. but I will still have the old title just to show people its legit
