Default OT: cool, NASA HC in Texas.

Just saw in the NASA forums that there will be a Texas edition of the Honda Challenge.

I find this very encouraging, even though I am not able to drive in it myself. Many of the events will be a Motorsports Ranch in Ft. Worth, just a short drive from where I am. It should be pretty cool, even for a mere spectator.

I thought I'd pass the news along for fellow Texas members.

Here's a link to the thread: http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=744

Yeah, it is kickass.

I thought there would be a bit more interest in the TXHC than this. Oh well.

Cool, that link doesn't look to official or extensive but I was thinking about getting involved in that in the future sometime. Guess my modding will have to stay H1 related now

nope, I'm a southern boy - lol, I'm in Arkansas. probably the only R on honda-tech from AR too.

One race in TX will be 5 hours away for me, and the other 8 hours. They are also doing one race in OK which is 2 hours from me (my home track). So i'll either go to 3 races or 4.

My car is mostly street car, would adding a rollcage be suffice to enter the event?

No, Honda Challenge is a full-on wheel-2-wheel racing series. While you could put a rollcage in your car, a fire-system, and make sure you have all the other safety requirements met, like fire-suit, helmet, etc., and then do your schools for a Competition License, and *then* come out to play, that's probably not what you were thinking.

So the short answer is no. Long answer, maybe.
Check out http://www.honda-challenge.com/ for more info

Hopefully some of the races will coincide with an HPDE though

That's what I'm hoping for, too. If we can get HPDE in Texas I'll part with the $35 to join NASA.

Looks like the chances are good.

I guess mostly Motorsportranch near FW http://www.motorsportranch.com and TexasWorldSpeedway http://www.texasworldspeedway.com

MSR is a more technical course with relatively slow speed and LOTS of off-camber turn while the latter is a more typical oval infield type of track with a long straight.

Again, Honda Challenge, is wheel-2-wheel competition racing involving contact and 10/10th's driving with many other cars on a road course at once. You need a race car which would be defined as any Honda that passes safety tech with a fire system/fire bottle... emergency kill-switch, 6-point cage that meets NASA/SCCA specs, window safety net, tow-hooks, required numbers and logos, and some other things I am probably forgetting. Of course you will also need an approved nomex fire suit, gloves, shoes, socks, balaclava, and SA rated racing helmet. To race in NASA/SCCA you would also need to complete competition school(s) and get a license/novice permit.

http://www.honda-challenge.com has all the rules. And again, hopefully some of these events will also include HPDE/Track days along with the race weekend.
