I changed my oil over the weekend to Valvoline MaxLife 10w30 and now my motor has a boggy type of ticking for the first few minutes when you start it up. It's hard to describe, but when you get on the gas it just sounds like the motor is getting too much of something (it sounds like I should be blowing thick smoke out the tailpipe). What could this be? Thanks if anyone can help me. Sorry if this is too vague, but it's the best I can describe and yes I did search. Oh yeah, the motor is a bone stock y7.

 

wel u should be using 5w30 in the y7... but that doesnt really sound like the prob to me...

check your oil? is it just right?

any check engines? check em'

thats as far as my mechanical mind can stretch on that...

worst comes to worst bring it to a shop and ask them what they think.

 

Oil levels are right, no check engine lights. I think that maybe the oil is too thick, but have read that this doesn't matter. Anyone else have any ideas?

 

did you spill oil into the spark plug tubes?

well, if you dont know already the 10 and the 30 in the 10w-30 represent cold and hot oil weights... the oil will act like a 30 weight while cold, and a 10 weight while hot... that's not gonna cause a problem.

out of curiosity, how much oil did you put in?

 

No I did'nt spill any anywhere. I did think of checking the plugs to see if they are fouled. I bought the car a month ago and haven't checked them yet. It's just funny that this started right after the oil change. It has 3.5 quarts in there...maybe a little more, but the levels on the dipstick are within the dots.

 

yah, id do a full tune-up it will be worth and will probably fix ur prob.
