yamaha banshee vs mustang gt
I raced a mustang gt in a 1/4 mile and totally kicked his butt. quads and motorcycles are so freaken fast in the 1/4 mile. My banshee does it in about 11 seconds.
as a long time 2 stroke quad and dirtbike rider, I imagine it wouldnt take much more than finding the gearing necessary to pull the mph necessary for a sub 12 quarter. topping out in fifth gear at around 75 with a bone stock 250cc 2 stroke dirtbike takes no time at all. A banshee sporting a 350cc twin 2 stroke, although significantly heavier, still has a great power to weight ratio. you just run out of gear really quick. Dropping rear sprocket teeth and/or adding front teeth will raise that mph limit, although there are limits on how much you can get away with with a stock tranny and not kill low end or the motor and trans.

WTF?
WTF?
He was stating that it's not so unbelievable at what times those things can run. He goes on to say that something as simply changing gear ratios can result in a faster 1/4 top speed resulting in lower times.
It wasn't that difficult to comprehend guys.

Thank you JSTOCK. Great vaguely insulting posts by those guys too. Maybe these guys are a little on the slow side.
I don’t understand what they were so confused about. Nissansare#1 posted that his banshee, a 350cc 2 stroke quad, does the quarter in about 11 seconds. Stockcrix1616 asked what was done to his quad. I replied that maybe re-gearing would be enough to hit 11’s. I didn’t think that power was the limitation to making 11’s. For instance, my dirtbike weighs around 370 lbs with me on it, and has about 50hp at the wheel. That’s good enough for 11.34 @ 120.16 through the quarter mile…assuming I had the gearing to make that mph.
In retrospect, gearing alone probably wouldn’t do it, but I didnt crunch numbers last time. Top speed for a banshee is probably somewhere around 80 mph from the factory. Hitting an 11.99 would take about 114mph. That’s a lot to pick up from 80 with gearing. An 11 flat would take >120mph. A banshee is also quite a bit heavier than a dirtbike, so it would need some extensive engine and tranny mods and/or giggle gas to make the setup necessary for an 11 flat.

You'd think that all of us who play around with imports would know a thing or two about power/weight ratios.
Like you were saying, it doesn't take much to get something as lightweight as a quad or dirtbike to run quick sprints.

thats so wierd!! i just got into a debate over whether or not my friends built-assed banshee could run 10's. he claims it did, im telling him theres no way in hell!! he would need what, 135-140 mph?!?!?!
i've rode 4-wheelers my whole life and their is no way his does 11's, maybe if you had a shot of nitrous to it. Plus he is a dumbass, you do not race 4wheelers a 1/4 mile you race the 100 yards, THATS IT..if anyone thinks they have a fast 4 wheeler i would be even more happy to race you.. 1988 250r
i didnt think they would run a 1/4 for they would top out really early. what a douche, the kid i know that is. cant wait to throw this in his face tomorrow!!
theres som in phila that runn 11's but there far from stock bamshee's. and i seen on seen and heard or like 9 sec snow mobles. i bst they dont have any tracking problems
i dont think, *think*, a 350cc twin could produce enough torque required to pull a banshee up to the mid hundereds(135-140 ish). it takes about a 600-750 cc 2-stroke engine to power a street bike to similar numbers!! although, i have seen articles on 100+ HP banshees, the powerband is probably spiky as *****!! just a hypothesis.

yes its possible that a quad can out run a car. around 300-345lbs and producing 53+ hp is no joke. i have a friend who had his curtis sparks/lsr 250 dynoed and at 49-50 hp the rear tires kept breaking loose and they couldnt get a real reading no matter how they tried to tie it down, and my bike will pull on his. just a few monts ago i turned a 10.46 mph on a high banked dirt tri-oval track and thats an adverage of about 80mph.

thats lap - to - speed conversion from this web site http://midwesttracks.tripod.com/misc/quarter.html
thats not the 1st time i have done that speed on a track, a few years ago we use to race a 3/8 mile dirt oval and was putting better times down then any of the cars that were out there, mid-high 14's. so yes its possible for a quad to beak in the 100's. and its possible for one to out run a car.

I don't see a stock Banshee running 11's . I don't care what you do to the gearing. You can only get so much out of it. If it's running 11's it's far from stock.

Even still, at speeds over say 70 or so the Banshee will be running out of gear. You would have to do some serious gear tweaks to get a Banshee to do 120-130.

time is an indication of weight vs. power
speed is an indication of HP
you could run an 11 without hitting 130 mph. It wouldn't be that hard on a quad either, because they are so light.

wtf?? a banshee is geared to do like 80 stock. in the 1/4, i would imagine it would top out like 1/4 way down the 1/4 (sounds funny)
thats 1/16 for the tards. or maybe im a tard, i need to stop drinking . . . .

Yes but you could gear the banshee differently, add some performance parts, and I'm sure it would hit over 100... just like you can go down 1-2 teeth in the front and up 4-10 in the rear of a bike (takes 15 or more mph off top end) but gives torque for stunting, you can do the reverse to lengthen a quad's top end... and from the sounds of his post, he raced on the street... I doubt they measured a 1/4 mile exactly

I work at a dealer and we sell banshess and all other atvs, bikes and skis, and we do have banshees that do well over 115mph top speed. You may have had forgotten that you can rum en on alchohol and nitrous, or stroker motors which are vastly available for em. And just like a car tuning plays a major part in how it runs. As far as running 11s in the quartermile that is attainable but it cost some $$$. I will have videos of this up for you to see the next time I got out riding and you can see that a banshee streched and dropped with a strocker motor running on alchohol with nos will run a 1/4 mile time faster than an 11 sec.
It just depends on how much $$$ you got to dump into it.
