short gears and headers
Starting a new topic, since the other one was getting "off-topic" and long, and my post wouldn't work for some reason.
Kenji: I'm quite happy with my DC Sports headers, if you're wondering. Dynoed next to comptech, they performed about the same. They both had good top-end improvements (7k+), comptech was maybe a hair better in the mid range, but the DC WHOOPED the Comptech at the lower end. And by low end, I mean 4300rpms, and by mid I mean 5000-6500. From 4000-4300 in my car, you can very clearly feel a kick in the pants.
As for short gears, I think I want to skip the short gears and just do the 4.55 R&P. I like the stock gear spacing, they're just too tall. And I want a shorter first gear to boot. So with stock gears and 4.55 R&P the max speed for each gear (well, 8000rpm in each gear) would be, if I did the math right (old speed *4.06/4.55),
1st: 40mph (45)
2nd: 72mph (81)
3rd: 101mph (114)
4th: 125mph (141)
5th: 165mph (185)
Stock numbers are in parenthesis (2nd and 4th might be off by 1mph). Slap me if I messed them up. It might be a little annoying on the highway, but I dealt with it just fine in my GSR (almost that same gearing), so I should be fine in the NSX. I don't have numbers for short gears or short gears + Type-R R&P.
As for which one is cheaper, it's kind of a tossup. The Comptech 4.55 R&P is like $1900, which is about the price of short gears AND Type-R R&P from Dali Racing. If your tranny needs some new gears (I'll prolly want some in mine, depending on how it looks) it would almost certainly end up cheaper doing short gears and R&P. But I wouldn't want the anemic 4-5 shift if I went to a race track on a normally aspirated engine.
