Check your seats
Just an FYI...
I recently had a problem with my driver's side seat. It was always creaky but I figured that was normal. However one day I sat down on it and the entire thing snapped backwards suddenly. One of the nuts securing the rail to the seatpan had pulled off completely.
I finally got around to getting it fixed. After removing the upper 1/2 of the seat and removing the injection-molded foam and seat cover, I discovered another evil secret - the entire rail on one side had started to crack and bend away from the seatpan. The metal had torn and several welds had snapped.
I'm not sure if a gorilla owned the car before me or if I need to lay off the Cheetos myself, but anyway, it cost me $30 and a few pulled hairs to find a shop with enough skill + a good-as-heck welding machine to effect repairs.
The bronzed portions are where the guy who owned the car before me tried to fix it using brazing.
My welder had to weld the nut in place, re-weld the supports around the nut where they'd pulled off the seatpan, hammer the pan lip down to flat again, weld up the torn metal, and finally weld the corner of the pan to the rail support. He also had to weld around the bronze from the brazing, as you can't weld steel and bronze together.
So my warning? Check your seats! If they move at all, squeak, or are loose at all, fix 'em before they're completely ruined!
