Drove a Type R...wow!
I was in Japan for various reason...blah...blah...
...had the opportunity to drive a Type R (with the optional Mugen intake scoop), so I took it. At first I was a little timid, but the whole experience was a once in a lifetime kind of opportunity. It was so overwhelming to be holding the key in my hand, it's only natural for me to be too cautious. It is after all a brand new Type R!!!! Only the best Honda ever!
I got in the car, and it was pretty low. Driving position was just perfect with the Recaro seat, good view from the cockpit. Shifting with my left hand felt weird for the first few shifts, but otherwise it's managable.
After a few minutes of driving slower than people ride bicycles on the sidewalk, I decided to "push" it a little more. The owner didn't care. So I did, and oh my goodness! The whine of the engine is plain intoxicating, I would have forgotten to shift if the red/green light hadn't started to blink. So I left-hand shifted, alot slower than if I would have been using my right-hand, but the RPM didn't drop too much.
Turn initiation/feel was so precise, point and go, butter. Although I did let-off the throttle just a tad in mid-corner(a definate error), I was able to guide the tail-end from sliding too much & from spinning out. There was NO understeer, well...at least compared to a tuned FF, which I did drive later in the day. Furthermore, it didn't feel as sluggish as an AWD (Skyline V-spec II & WRX Sti) that I drove the following day.
So i'll finish with a quote from Ferris Bueler;
"If you have the means to obtain one, I highly recommend it. It's so choice."
EDIT: This
