Default oil pressure in my ls/vtec dropped while i was driving

i was passing a car at 5k rpms in 4th when i notice my oil pressure dropped to 60psi.. my oil pressure used to peak out at 92 psi, consistant 75-80 psi crusing at 3k rpms+ now it peaks out at around 78 psi, 3k rpms 60 psi. .. . has this happend to anyone? my ls/vtec so far only has 15k+ miles, i have no oil leak and now i'm scared to drive it i dont want to spin a bearing!! need your help!! by the way, i'm using a shimmed ls oil pump.. thanks!!

replace the oil pump. you can get a type r oil pump for around $100.

if you do have to drive it, keep it under 2.5k...

tanks for the reply! where can i get a type r oil pump for under 100? i was quoted 295 from my local dealer.. i dont want anything happen to my motor, i invisted to much money into it and so far it amazes me every time i open vtec.. need help thanks!

so is the oil pump the only cause of loss of oil pressure, or could it be something else? (cheaper i hope!) again the oil pump was inspected and was asured thosand times by the machine shop guy that it was perfectly safe to use on stock b16a rev limit during my build up of this motor. (i was willing to buy a gsr oil pump) he told me gsr and ls oil pumps have the same part numbers. anyone??

peaks out at 60psi? doesnt sound bad. have you checked your oil level yet?

never mind, fixed the problem.. all i did was an oil change and i got back my oil pressure.. hmm thats weird, my oil level was above the 2nd line.. oh well its fixed.. thanks for the replys =o)

Same thing happend to me a while ago oil pressure would drop huge when I stepped on it hard, I did an oil change and the problem was gone.My oil level was a proper level as well. I am also running an ls/vtec with a shimmed oil pump.

btw, 60 psi is just fine. As a general rule of thumb, you should have at least 10 psi per thousand RPM.
