Ok, my sisters accord is a 98 v6 w/ 104k mi on it. When driving it, it wont go past 1st gear and it keeps going in 1st coming out and free reving then going back in 1st all on its own.
Do you think the transmission is shot to hell???

That does sound like a blown tranny...
cause on my EG with an Auto tranny, did something exactly similar, it would be stuck in first gear, rev very very high and cant switch gears, but when I put into 2 the car would shift for those two gears, but when put into D3 and then D4, is just got stuck in D3...then when I turn off the car, the whole cycle would start again, plus it smelled like somthine is melting....and when I checked the tranny fluid, all of it was gone or when I added some smoke would come out of the where the dipstick goes...
So with this said, my tranny was fucked...and need replacing...
hope that helps...and good luck dude

Yups seems like u got a blown one. My cousin blew his 89 stang tranny when we were doin bout 120 on the freeway. We had to drive all the way home in 4th gear..sucked ***.
Damn. Well, is it cheaper to rebuild the old tranny or get a different one(junkyard)?
And whats the average price of a used tranny for a v6 coupe auto accord?
THanks

i think it would be cheaper to rebuild...it cost about 800 bucks...it sucks...but yea...iono how much it would be to get a used one frum a junkyard...but u gotta think about labor and all that other stuff...
junkyard is cheaper, if you're willing to take the chance, otherwise, a rebuild will cost a lot, and ....to be perfectly honest, I've never heard of a rebuild working for a very long period of time after it was done.......or maye that's just because their the only ones anyone ever says anything about.....*laughs*

good luck finding someone to rebuilt that tranny for only 800 bucks that is the worst transmission Honda has ever built and they always have problems .... if you want it done at the dealer my friend was quoted about 6K but i sent it to a trans shop that i deal with all the time and they hooked me up for $1450 but my tranny had no hard part damage (basically it needed clutches and o-rings ) if you need solenoid's or any other hard part's the price shoots up very fast .... also keep in mind that this transmission is not a easy one to rebuilt so only take it to someone who knows Honda transmissions because if you dont then your going to be rebiulding it again in a year .... good luck ....
i bought a 4 cylinder A/T with only 4700 miles for $500.
you CAN find good deals on A/T's, if you look hard enough.

those tranny is kinda pricy last time i check.
first thing first, go to honda and bitch about the transmission problem.
you might got a freebie since the tranny got some problem in the design.
sounds like you need a rebuild, problably all the gear is grind down to nothing plus the things that suppose the "pick up" is fired
