Looking at 98 FZR, need help
I'm looking at a 1998 FZR600 here in Az but I'm not sure if its a good buy or not, so I'm asking for your help. It has 6k miles on it and runs the smoothest out of any of the bikes I've looked at in the last 2 months. He's asking $3600 but I know I could at least get him to $3400.
The only problem I have with it is it has been laid down twice (once on each side, very minor cosmetic only). The damage isn't bad but it is there. How much weight do you place on engine vs looks? Is this a good deal? Thanks for your help.

i'd rather get an f2 or f3 for that price. i don't like the tail and ole school circle headlights. if you do decide on the fizzer then i recommend changing the tail to the r1 conversion by airtech.
That's over 1k in bodywork for the airtech. I would get an older fzr. That model line is really old. Kind of comparable to buying a ninja500r.

Thats BS IMO. A well maintanined FZ is more than match for a similar yr CBR. In 98 CBR's were the most boring bikes bar none. They went from A-B but did nothing to inspire anyone.
An FZR will reward you, as you have to learn to ride it. Kind of like running a TZ rather than a 600 in racing. You have to watch out for discs and clutches on FZR's as they are ****. Also the rear shock is dead by 10K. Throw a few $$ on suspension and you will have a very quick road bike.

As having owned several FZRs in my life( started out with a new 89 when it came out) As LUKE said a good running FZR is more than a match for CBRs. And the bike can be upgraded easily to get more power and better handling. When the bike was introduced there was nothing on or off the track in its class that could touch it. Now having bought an 01 R6, I still have a highly moded 95 FZR that can keep up with most newer bikes. I say go for it.
