Swapping a D16y7 into 88 CRX Si soon: Checklist?
I plan to swap a d16y7 from a 98 automatic DX. I will be using the stock cable tranny and wiring harnesses.
The swap has 89k miles. My motor and tranny have 146k miles.
Things I will be replacing:[*]timing belt[*]water pump[*]alternator and a/c belts[*]intake manifold gasket[*]exhaust manifold gasket
I read a few good threads on what I needed to do. Some varied in info and I just want to make sure this swap goes as smooth as possible.
Resuse:[*]stock a6 IM w/ tb and others[*]stock a6 distributer[*]alternator and a/c[*]stock a6 tranny and clutch
So the question is:
What else should I replace before I swap the motor in?
Is there anything else I should do to make everything work?
Do I need air tools?
What troubles should I expect?
Thanks so much!
I plan to post up the progress with pics and what not.

b2: i did a similar swap into my wife's 90 Std.
you will need to use the A6 driver side engine mount bracket (timing cover from the y7 must be removed and hacked up a little bit for the bracket to fit, but it will bolt right onto the motor).
you will need to also use the A6 alternator and alternator bracket. you will also use the A6 crank pulley (i believe, can't remember exactly, but i'm pretty sure we used the A6 crank pulley).
the only issue you will in terms of wiring is that the a6 motor has the radiator fan switch sensor on the back of the block. the y7 has the ECT sensor on the thermostat housing and no fan control switch sensor on the back of the block. if you try and wire up your fan control switch sensor wiring from your Si harness to the ECT on the y7 your fan(s) will never turn on. what I had to do is just connect the two wires to eachother, and this way the fans were always on when i had the car turned on. you could theoretically remove the fan control switch sensor from the back of the a6 block and put it onto the y7, but that would be a PITA.
good luck and let me know if you have any questions along the way.
oh, and yes you will want to use air tools. it's a PITA to get axle nuts and the crank pulley bolt off without air.

I did this a while back in a gutted 89si hatch. It ran pretty good for what it was. It was deffinant improvment ove my tired old a6. good luck. You have all the info you need. very straightforward. good luck.
Your forgetting quite a few gaskets that should be replaced while the drivetrain is out. I'd do front/rear main seals, both axle seals, valve cover gasket, and the pan gasket. That's just me though, I like to have the piece of mind of all new gaskets. I'd also replace the idler while your on the timing belt side, and give it a valve adjustment as well.
