weak lowend power from a b18c1
my gsr motor has been swapped into my EG and seems to be running fairly shitty. It only has and intake so far but the lowend seems to rev up pretty slowly... almost comparable to my old SOHC motor. It drives nothing like my friend's stock integra gsr. The motor was purchased from a wrecked car and i have no idea what it's been through. it has a drilled oil pan (now plugged) which looks like it's been turbo'd before. i've done all/most tune-up items like plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fluids... and things of that nature... new thermostat and radiator (used to run hot) Also, the vtec doesn't seem to kick that much or at least that noticable of a crossover point. there are no check engine lights and everything seems to be in order except that it feels pretty slow. it doesn't blow any type of smoke to signify a blown gasket or bad rings.... but it feels really restricted... any ideas or advice?
I dunno man, the motor coud be shot. If it was turboed before the guy could have run the hell out of it. I would say get the engine ripped apart and have the pistions, rods, seals and crank looked at.
Have you run the car at the track yet?

yea i have the car at the track, that's why i felt that it was slow. i ran it with an intake and straight-pipe.... everything else is stock. i guess i shouldn't be expecting too much from it since it is so stock, but the result was a 15.8... from experience with friend's cars, it should at least run low 15's or high 14's. so i know something is wrong.... well as far as tearing my car apart, might be a pretty big job and dunno if i can put the daily driver under the knife... also, i checked the plugs the other day and they seem to be kinda white, what does white mean?
thanks...
thanks...
Was the motor from a 5spd or Auto ?
Auto B series have a less aggressive cam profile, therefore produce slightly less HP and torque.
And a compression test and leak down are a must on a used motor with an unknown past ! Blowby will kill power....

Do you run it with a straight pipe all the time? If you do it could be that you have no back pressure at all. And at times that could be bad. A car does need some back pressure to perform right. I would say put the stock exhaust back on and then run it. If your times improve then it was because of the straight pipe.
x2board: the motor is a 5spd...
valentinecr: i have the full stock exhaust on. only the cat is modified. so i think there is a lot of back pressure. yea but anyhow, i think i should still do a compression and leakdown test. what kinda numbers should i be seeing for a healthy motor?!

what would be causing a very lean situation? i know the timing was already advanced when i got the motor, so i just recently changed it back to zero, or at least close to stock.... should a FPR help out the lean problem?
