Default fishy or what???

i have a friend that is selling his car and he got this email......i was wondering if anyone else recieved something like this. SEEMS *VERY* FISHY

this was the email recieved
thanks a lot for the mail and the price is now okay by me so this is how we
are going to seal this transaction. There is an associate of mine in the US
who is owing me $10,000 i am going to instruct him to send you a check for
that amount, and when The check is in your possesion you can now send my
balance via WESTERNUNION.The reason why i am doing this is that a check sent
from over here would take up to 30days or more to clear whereas a check sent
within the US would clear almost immediately .Although i know that the value
of the check is more than the price of the car but
I hope i can trust you with my balance So if this offer is acceptable
toyou, let me have your contact information so that i can instruct my
associate in state to send you The CHASHIRS check, that is your
name,CONTACTaddress and your phone number. Please get back to me
immidiatelly as soon as you get this mail so that i can know your decision.I
am banking on my balance so that i will be able to pay my shipper and he
will be able to pickup the car IMMIDIATELLY. in a location of you choice
after you send HIM the ballance.i am doing all this because it is more
cheaper and faster.

yours faithfully.

The way it works is that they forge cashier's checks from a US bank, which other US banks are REQUIRED to honor. By the time it get's to the originating bank (where it's found to be fraudulent), you are supposed to have already mailed him his "balance."

This is 100% a scam. My friend just got scammed on this. He deposited the money in his account and the bank called him back and said it was a big fraud. So now he has to go make a police report for it.

Scam. Dude tried to run this on my brother in law for his R1. Sent extra money and told him to return the rest and to ship the bike. Luckily he waited for the check to clear and it bounced else he'd be out his bike.

I got the same thing for my crx, though he replied when I ask him things on how he wanted the car, with turbo and rims.... and when I told him that a local buyer was interested he told me he'd give 200 more over what they were asking and thought it seemed kinda weird then he'd never told the name of his associate who was to handle the shipping. Total scam.
