Default Knocking noise on steering column

When I push my brakes fast and hard quickly or hit a bump driving on a bumpy road, this annoying knocking noise comes from my steering column, sounds like something may be loose or something. I also noticed that my steering rack has torn boots on both sides, will that influence anything? Do any of you have any of these problems with your car, the noise is coming from my steering column.

could either be your tie rods, or steering rack. ball joints. An easy way to check is to jack the front up, and place hands at 3 and 6 o clock and check for play.
