Oil Pressure Gauge Problem!
So this is the 3rd oil pressure sending unit i replaced.....courtesy of Autometer of course but im sick and tired of seeing it go out...
so i decided i would go with something other than Autometer...i say so because at my shop there is this guy that blows them on a weekly basis and i dont want to deal with that
so i decided i would go with another gauge....i was looking at an Electrical Gauge from Greddy...but im not sure if they come with a sending unit or not and i dont know if the sending unit would be installed in the same place as my current one is in now(side of the block, under the ignition coi)
anyone know anything about these??? good? bad?
TIA

symba-cool...let me know if it comes with the sending unit
also, if you like, can u post a pic of what it looks like....im interested to see what it looks like....and im also wondering if it can be mounted where mine currently is(under the ignition coil, on the side of the head, 5th gen)it would be greatly appreciated
LudeyKrus-honestly if i knew why they were blowing out ummmm i dont know....lol...i would tell you...lol
i guess its just poorly made
the shop that i go to, to install parts at has this guy come in on a weekly basis because his senders cant last more than a week

Isn't it recommended that you keep the sending unit off of the engine? I believe that the vibration is the reason for this. I remember reading (possibly at Autometer.com) that the sending unit should be attached to the firewall or soemthing else stationary.

t0p_sh0tta-its funny....my shop called autometer direct and thats what they told them to mount it(I have an SH)
symba-thanks man...dont stress it if you cant get battteries...i appreciate it tho

I'd more than bet there's something wrong with your wiring to get the autometer gauge or sender as there's VERY little that can go wrong with a sender. I have a water temp, oil pressure, and oil temp gauges setup and they all work perfectly. I've never known anyone with a set of autometers that had their senders blow out once a week. There's something wrong with your wiring.
nope wiring is all good....you can quadruple check if you like also...cuz i just did that....
i did the test that Autometer told me to do and it verified the sending unit is bad
heres what they sent me:
Take the wire off the sending unit and touch it to ground with the key on. Does the gauge go back to 100? If so, then either the sender is bad or it has lost its ground. If this test worked, reinstall sender wire onto sender and run a ground wire to the body of the sending unit and see if the gauge operates when u start the engine. If so, the sender lost its ground. If not, the sender is bad or something blocking the pressure.

Where do you mount the sending unit ? If you mount it right on the block that could play a key role in why there breaking, the vibration could be doing it. I have had my auto meter oil pressure gauge hooked up for some time and it has never broke. I know a lot of other people that have never had a problem with there gauge either, but there gauges were not mounted directly on the engine either. The problems I do here are from the people that mount them directly on the engine. So if you do have it mounted directly on the engine, I would try moving it and see if that works. Here is how I have mine mounted.
I sure hope he's not attaching the sending unit to the block. Not only will that kill the sensor, it'll crack the block. Plus I've NEVER heard of someone killing that many sensors with a correctly installed setup.
