Default 1997-1999 Honda Prelude Ignition Switch Safety Recall

97-99 Honda Prelude Ignition Switch Safety Recall
Hello Everyone,

I have just gone to my local honda dealership to get the Safety Recall done on my Iginition Switch. I notice now that when I try to signal for a right turn, the turn signal lever now hits the plastic molding around the steering column. It doesn't seem to be a flowing motion....I'll have to hit the lever and hope it will give me a right turn signal. I'm able to sign for a left turn without any problems...even feel and hear that click noise telling me the left turn signal is engaged. If you look at the turn signal level now it seem there is not enough space between the top of the lever and the plastic molding. I was wondering if any of you out there have had this service done? and if so are you all having any problems similar to mine. I don't want to have to trim the molding...I wanted to get some input before I have to go back to the dealership to complain....Thanks.

P.S. I hope all this make senses.

Hey man don't worry about it everything is ok if it is what happened to me. When I got my alarm installed the same thing happened and I asked the installer about it and he just pushed the molding up. This did not fix the problem. I took a look at it and realized that the screw that was holding the molding in place on the steering column was missing. I used one of the screws from the midddle of the column and put it on the left side and if fixed the problem. Take a look underneath the steering column and you will see several deep holes. Within these holes are the screws. Check to see if the screws are there. If they are still play around with the screws to see if that is the problem. If that isn't the case then I don't know but that is what happened to me.

This is the only post that showed up using the key word "prelude ignition".

If I could ask, why did you have your ignition harness changed other then the recall notice?

I ask because the last couple of days my car has turned off while driving on the highway. When I pulled over and reached to turn and take the key out, the car came on, not started, but came on like I had just turned the key to the on position.

I instantly remember reading about the recall on a website about 2 weeks ago and thought to my self it could be that problem, and maybe my harness is f**ked.

Does anyone know if they are still reparing this problem on 99 preludes? Did it cost you anything for the repair?

Thanks..

Andre

The dealerships have to fix all recalls for free since it was their f*ck up. I have a '99 too, but haven't been in to have them replace my ignition. I haven't had problems with my ignition (knock on wood).
