Has anyone had or know of any problems with the ignitor in an ITR?

Symptoms: When tacho hits about 5k RPM, it (the tacho) starts jumping all over, VTEC 2nd stage doesn't kick in at all, and rev limiter doesn't activate even though I know i'm at the point where it should (based on speed and gear).

Honda replaced the ignitor twice and it was ok for a short while after each replacement. It just started happening again for the third time only now the tacho starts jumping at about 7.5K RPM.

Car is stock standard ITR 2001.

Honda don't know whats causing it and they say it has never happened before.

Any ideas??

 

It does seem a little odd. My igniter went bad and went I took it in for service, they told me that my cranshaft position sensor was also bad. My only symptoms were sluggish acceleration, sputtering at idle, and a CEL. They replaced my whole distributor while they were at it as wel as my CPS. Ever since my car has run harder than ever. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. Just an FYI on my experience.
